Who would have a more successful tour if they played only solo material?
Me thinks Sammy would.
Neither could pack 12-18 thousand seat arenas night after night, but Sammy would come close to filling the 3-8 thousand seat places, where Dave can probably pack a club.
Some of the reasons for the "decent" ticket sales for the "SansHalen Tour" are:
1) Fans of Van Halen
2) Curiousity. (they want to see if the 2 can get along)
3) Michael Anthony (will he, or won't he show up)
4) Not many other tours out there worth spending the dough on. (you get alot of music for your bucks on this tour and they are NOT ripping you off.)

I don't know that I agree. DLRC will point out that Dave headlined a show in Philly that drew 13,000. I dispute that was all due to Dave, but he was there...
I think that if Dave is smart and continues his VH tribute act, and keeps it fairly rare, meaning he doesn't overdo it and wear it out, he can draw as many or more as Sammy can.
If Dave does new material, it's club time.
Strip the VH material from both of their sets, I think Sammy out-draws Dave. Especially because Sammy's NORMAL solo set only has about 3 or 4 VH tunes, and he does 3,000-8,000 per show. But even that would probably drop if NO Van Halen.
Without VH material, I don't think Dave could fill a club. Unless he has a killer all star band like the Vai Sheehan era.

Too bad it will never happen, since for some reason Dave seems to be afraid to play his solo material.

Hmmm, check that. I suppose if he did, like county fairs and shit, he could draw over a thousand just by people wandering by.
Really, though, is there a difference between 1000 and 3000? I really don't think it's all that big of a difference. You can almost say it's the difference between, say, you suck, and you suck more...
And I meant Sammy by the 3000 reference. Equal opportunity bashing, please.

I dunno. I think Dave could happily mix his show up 60-40 or even 50-50 and show a little faith in his solo work - some of its excellent.
Anyways, I'll throw this one to opinions, its a better fit there I thinkA little zen....... Headed your way.......
