Van Halen is sometimes referred to as Pop-Metal band. I agree. Eddie's awosome hard rock guitar riffs and the pop-like chorus in the back ground makes Van Halen what it is. The question is did VH start this "genere" (if you want to call it that) or was it there before. And who else fits into this category?

Van Halen IS rock n' Roll. Both versions dicked around with some pop metal, but it's written in some book somewhere that Van Halen took it to the NEW level never heard before.
There is a book about that isn't there? Out.Quin-a-se-i-co

VH is just a great fucking old-fashioned rock and roll band, who led a revolution of 80's hard rock. The bands that followed could be classified as pop metal sure, Ratt, Dokken, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Poison, etc.

VH definitely refined and popularised Pop-Metal, but I wouldn`t say they invented it. Check out the British Glam Rock scene circa 1973 for some earlier stuff, like...
The Sweet - 'Ballroom Blitz' or 'Hellraiser'
Slade - 'Cum on Feel the Noize' or 'Squeeze me Pleeze me'
Queen - 'Seven Seas of Rhye' or ' Now I`m Here'
All the ingredients are there, killer riffs, anthemic choruses and vocal harmonies. All of them were hit singles in the UK in either 73 or 74.
But then again, you could always trace things back further to The Kinks and the Who!!!!
As the Chineese say.... there is nothing new under the sun!
