I won't consider it a ballad, it's a rock song with a lot of groove.

I'm not sure how I would answer your question Mean_Street. One thing I can say is that I've always really liked the song even if it isn't one of the more popular ones.

but it is sort of a slow but up beat song.. its had to say really, but it depends.

Ouncie.. i love the song, no one talks about it and its such an underrated song! i think Diver Down is a really great album. Even though it has cover songs, they did the cover songs really good. i just like the cd.the front is cool and so is the inside where it shows the collage of some pics of van halen.

SECRETS is no ballad. It's more like a light song with a groove. A ballad to me is a more introspective slow song, usually played with acoustics or piano. Some ballads have electrics too, but the lyrics of that song just find Dave in a more laid back mood. I would consider the song simply a laid back VH song with a helluva hook.

No, it's just a very sensual rock song, much like Women In Love. Great song. I can never decide whether Secrets or Little Guitars is my favorite off DD. BTW, VH always played Secrets heavier in concert than it sounds on the album, so I doubt they really considered it a ballad.

Neither... just a great piece of rock n' roll!
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Some people here have said that Feels So Good is a ballad, but I think it's similar to Secrets except for the keyboards. FSG isn't slow and it has a groove and hook, so I don't consider it a ballad.

Feels So Good=possibly the worst Van Hagar song, along with "When It's Love." Yuck.

I'll pile on here and say that neither Secrets nor Feels So Good are ballads. They're slower to mid tempo rock songs, with a groove.

Here are a few undisputable ballads:

    Heaven, by Warrant
Every Rose Has It's Thorn, by Poison
Home Sweet Home, by Motley Crue
    Nobody's Fool, by Cinderella
I Remember You, by Skid Row

Secrets and Feels So Good have nothing in common with these songs at all...

C'mon, can anybody else think of some really cheesy ballads from the 80's?

It's most definately not a ballad, if you go by what is traditionally considered a rock ballad. If you listen to the lyrics, you know it's not a love song either.
