This is not an attack on any individual, just one's perspective. So please don't take this to heart if I seem to offend you fav member of VH. Feel free to give your own list of winners and losers

The Winners:

Sammy - Without a doubt, the biggest winner. He scores the tour he wanted, although minus Eddie and Alex. He is currently planning a new group with his best bud M. Anthony. Oddly enough, he has remained the most relevant in the mainstream considering he actually is putting out music, selling his tequila, etc.

Michael Anthony - Again, he scores with making new music with friend Sammy, and doing what he loves (Playing the VH hits on tour. Despite all the craziness, it looks like MA is moving on.

The Losers:

David Lee Roth - Now I love Dave era VH. I first thought that Dave was a winner in this whole thing. But the more I realized it, Dave has kinda got the short end of the stick. How much of an ego buster is it to Dave that the only way he can get publicity is to tour with his one time enemy (Obviously a VH reunion would have garnered him more publicity, but that didnt work). Sammy was already touring on his own, while Dave had to join festivals or open for another band. Moreover, Dave is playing nothing but VH, with one solo. Now I Love that he is doing the classics, but he isnt doing anything progressive, merely retro. I understand Dave is giving us what we want (VH classics), but he hasn't been giving us anything new. And until I hear this supposed new album, I am gonna stick to that statement. Moreover, if Michael Anthony is able to get through to Eddie that Sammy should be the singer, Dave really loses.

Eddie - No new music, no manager, no label. Just got out of battle with cncer, and no is seperated from his wife. Worse, he looks like a party pooper for not doing a Michael Anthony and joining the Sam and Dave tour.

Alex - Where the hell is he anyway?

The fans - Yes the Sam and Dave tour is a treat. But when all of us heard the rumors that Dave might be rejoining VH 2 years ago, most of us got our hopes up. This tour, as cool as it is, just doesnt meet our expectations we had for the full fledged reunion. Its like our excitement in 2000 was a 10, and this tour only gave us a 7. Moreover, no new music is coming out of this tour. Again, merely based on the past. And we lose anyway because we haven't heard new music from the key element in all of this, Eddie.

I'd call Roth a "draw" if that's possible to do. He's not a winner or a loser really. He's making some good music, but the public's view of Roth is pretty bad. He's thought to be washed up, blah, blah, blah. I don't know, he just doesn't seem to be a clear winner or loser.

What Dave should do is try to reinvent himself somewhat.. I think his biggest problem is that he tries to look as he did in the past.. Personally I thought Dave from '94 looked pretty "modern"... but that is just my opinion.

How much of an ego buster is it to Dave that the only way he can get publicity is to tour with his one time enemy (Obviously a VH reunion would have garnered him more publicity, but that didnt work).
But this tour was inevitable, or should I say expected. I don't think it's so much an ego buster for Dave. $20 of pot, or a snapy little pappy keep your daddy happy video and Dave has publicity. And he gets it because he will always be known for (the reason he is famous) the outragouly best damn frontman of the best damn 80's rock band that he was. He wants to feel that feeling again of being on stage, center of attention. He just doesn't have the right band, right now. And he doesn't have the right fans. He needs that whole crowd there for him, 100% so Dave can be Dave. I think alot of people don't really understand Dave. You have to look at who he really is, and how he thinks. Dave being Dave with Eddie's music behind him is whats Van Halen.
Sammy, a fellow musician being complimentary of Eddie as a musician, was Van Halen.

And when I say you...I mean that in a general way, not specified to EdibleEd.

I really don't have any comment on this post, I guess I had a thought and it just didn't pan out.

Basically, Dave's ego shouldn't be busted for having to tour with Sammy for publicity. They are connected. It's the right thing for them to do, inevitable, expected if you wish. It should be. It should be even more so a real Van Halen reunion with all of them. I think the real ego buster for Dave will be if Van Halen gets back with Sammy Hagar and start saying things about him. I think that would hit him on a personal level. Now, i'm not saying Van Halen shouldn't get back with Sammy. I'm just saying what I think would be an ego buster.

I suggest everyone go see the show. It's a show for the real fans, not for getting new ones.

May I add I think Roth is way better then he was in 1996-97. I remember feeling bad for him, he just looked horrible. I used to wonder if he was depressed. But He has proven to me he is focused, and he has definitely gotten his shit together. I just think he needs the right band (VH).

If you went to the Sam & Dave show, I can't see how u can call us fans "losers". The show was really really great.
This tour is not the reason we are not getting some new VH.
It is because there isn't any new VH that Sam & DAve decided to do this tour. Thank God they did.
Another things. Just look at how much ppl attented each show and how much $ each show grossed.
With the $ he made, considering his stage set-up was kept to the bare minimum, calling DLR a loser is pretty funny. He's laughing his way to the bank as we're talking, thank you very much.

I see only 2 losers. Hint: they have a Dutch last name.

Since both Sammy and Dave will easily clear $1,000,000 net for this tour (add up tickets, shirts, Videos), I don't see any of them as losers.

We get to see 3 HOURS of great music and performing, so I don't think the fans are losers.

Eddie and Alex having no label, singer or manager are walking the loser line right now, but one good release is all it takes for them to jump back on top.

Oops, I'm sorry about posting that quote without finishing it. I was going to say that as a Rothbot and that I am very partial to the DLR era of VH that that was a killer post! Although I don't consider Van Hagar the real deal, I do like several songs that they have done. That post was just a completely unbiased statement by a TRUE VH fan! Dave's gone from being the most exciting, electrifying possibility for VH in 2000 to being irrelevant. It isn't all his fault, but the fact that he's been standing still hasn't helped.

Dave makes really, really bad decisions when it comes to his career.

see, dave has appeal to classic vh fans, that's about it. sam has appeal to van hagar fans and others as well.

with or without his tequilla, sam will always do well for himself. he may not sell tons of albums anymore or be in a big name band, but people still wanna see him when he comes out. i mean, there are people who wanna see dave too, but dave needed sam for this tour. i don't blame either guy for soing it though, it's easy money and a way to keep the vh name alfoat should either singer get back with the band

I want to stress I'm not putting Dave down. As MikeL said, Dave just hasn't made the wisest decisions for his career. Sure he can go on musical vacations and do an album like YFLM, but he should do that on the side and put out the music we all know he can do (DLR Band). I honestly believe Dave can be relevant in today's mainstream if he gets back with VH and puts out a genuine rock album.

While I think the allure of both men on the tour are selling tickets, and both needed each other for the amount of publicity they are receiving, Dave needed Sammy a little more then Sammy needed Dave.

Finally, yes Dave will make tons of money. But is that doing anything for his musical career? How do we know he won't invest that money into another DVD, which God knows what will do to his career at this point. My point is that Dave hasn't been able to move on. Either get it together with VH, or stop living in the past. Dave still has a shot at being the biggest winner of them all. I sincerely hope he does.
