I read once that the guys used to call him that because they thought he looked like a surfer, so it became his nickname in the band.

A couple of unimportant pieces of Biff Malibu-related trivia:

There was a 1990s male porn star that went by the moniker Biff Malibu.

There was a David Lee Roth lookalike who appeared on TV's "Love Connection" back in the late '80s who also called himself Biff Malibu. He claimed on the show that he got the name from a time he was on a beach in Malibu, CA, and someone else had yelled out, "Biff!". He then said he combined the the two terms because they sounded like a good surfer dude-type name.
