While walking around on my lunch break I decided to go to the local music store called HMV.

I Saw Van Halen 1984 and VH3 going under the hammer at $2.95 (aust), that would be around $1.50 usa.

Remasters where selling at $10, US$5

What the fucks going on, Van Halen have entered the baragin bin!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, VH3 has been frequently in bargain bins since not long after it release...because it sucks!

That surprises me that the Remasters was so cheap where you are. A classic album that has sold quite a few million albums shouldn't be in the bargin bin. The albums that belong there are VH3 and anything done by Krokus.

Classic of not, after an album has outlasted its strong sales period (and it's not so strong sales period and it's no sales period), the price is slashed to try and stimulate further sales among new fans or holdouts.

It's capitalism, not a reflection on the quality of 1984.

Just wondering, since when does the price of a CD reflect its quality? The only reason some things are most expensive is because it's the cool sound of the month!

I've seen the Van HALEN CD's for cheap recently... but as Goo said, they are the older copies being cleared out in favor of a remaster. After all, who the fuck would pay full price for a disc when they can get a better sounding version for the same price?.

Now the key here is to find a store with some really stupid employees who don't know the difference between the old discs and the new ones and have slapped the cheap tickets on the remasters.

    Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

While christmas shopping,I popped into my local HMV, they had a huge sale on, there I spotted 1984 going for Irish £4.99 - which is about $5. Like FORD pointed out, I thought it was the original CD, - no, it was the remaster. Then, like FORD, I thought it was an employee's mistake - untill I saw about 20 copies of the REMASTERED 1984 album spread out amongst the racks going for £4.99!!!!!

You should have bought them all at that price, and distributed them to disadvantaged Limp Bizkit fans! Good deed for the day

And then I went up to my usual haunt - the heavy metal section - and there was the remastered 1984 disc selling for £8.99, the price I paid for it when the remasters came out. WTF indeed!!!!!!

All of the remasters are in the bargin bin at the local store here. Never thought I'd see the day.
Van Halen lumped in with Bad Company and REO Speedwagon.

I saw the same thing at the CD sale at Sanity in Greensborough (Melbourne) last week. I didn't go through every rack but I did see several copies of the first two albums remastered for A$10.
