Well, I can only speak for myself, but when I saw a topic called "Goo Declares War On Freedom Of Speech!" (as you can tell) I was more than a little irritated.

(But how can you have a problem with what Jonathan said? Just because he agreed with Top Timmy's post, and mine? Come on, Jonathan had the most diplomatic post of all that posted in the thread. He showed more class and restraint than I did, I know that. So it's not fair to lump him in with the rest of us "Pissed-Off Peeps. LOL.)

Everybody's got a problem with VH's situation, and ALMOST everybody had a problem with that "nacho" guy. He was a negative guy that wanted to stir the shit.

I can understand how you could be angry and want to give him a piece of your mind, but by having shut down the anti-nacho threads, Goo was keeping the peace on the links.

That's the job. He does it well.

But to have accused him of being some opponent of free speech was ridiculous. Completely.

You've since apologized, and that was big of you.

I'm not specifically angry with you, I guess, but with the whole "censorship" rap.

If anyone (with 20 posts, OR 20,000 posts) were to have accused Goo of what you did, I would have said the same things I said to you - To them.

(Except for the line about picking one name. LOL. )

It should be clear that anyone can say anything at VHForums, as long as it is framed in such a way that makes SOME kind of sense.

No hard feelings on my side. Periodically Brett and the mods get accused of censorship and people who have been around here for a while (like me) come to their support (not that they need it).

There is no censorship of opinions here, but it's like a community. We like things the way they are because it works. Think of it more like a pub/bar where you meet your buddies. If someone comes in blasting rap on a ghetto blaster - getting them to stop isn't censorship it's asking them to take something we don't want elsewhere. And freedom of speech always comes with a responsibility and my/our right not to listen/read IMO. This is not a public place, Brett is the emperor

There are plenty of places on the net for VH flamewars - try alt.music.van-halen. Personally I never get pissed off by what I read here. If someone disagrees then fair enough, VH is a controversial band - if someone acts like a moron then they probably are, that doesn't affect me or make Roth a worse singer/frontman.
