The low point was probably a Great Woods appearance where Cherone lost his voice and had to stop the show after four songs. "I go backstage and my brother says, `Gary, man, you wouldn't want to be in the audience and hear what they're saying about you -- "Bring back Dave! Cherone sucks!" ' So I asked my brother, `What did you do?' And he says, `Oh, I joined in.' Thanks a lot, man. There's a Cherone for you."

Very cool! My respect for Cherone has gone up a lot of points. You'd never catch Sammy, Dave or VH talking that down to earth, sorry to say. In a flurry of pointing the fingers, Gary admits it was his doing (not Ed's, like some think) to leave the band. Gotta love it, no shit-talking on anybody's part in that breakup.

I thought it was funny when Gar said that VH was willing to do Extreme songs. Just can't see VH pumping out "Hole Hearted"

Thanks for the link Jonathan first real news I have heard about VH and Cherone in actual context. He was right to move on. He is an admirable man at least. And he seems like he doesn't regret what happened with VH but he understands it was time for him to leave.

I think it would have been awesome if VH would have played a Extreme song!!!!

Great Interviews,

Though like most, I was dissapointed in III, my respect for Gary has grown since his departure. He may not have had the charisma of Dave or Sam, but he shows more maturity.

Interesting.....I have to say that I can't wait to see if Dave is back, how he presents himself. I can't see him rehashing the party dude line for line and I can't see him doing a total transformation into mature mid-40's legend.. We'll see...

Someone raised the topic of VH doing Extreme Covers and how silly that mya have come across if executed...

If memory serves correctly, I recall reading an interview with Mikey back in '98 in which he suggested it would be cool if VH did a cover of "Get The Funk Out" because of all the bass guitar in that song...Anyone remember this interview?

I was at that Great Woods show when Gary lost his voice. You could tell it was starting to go early on. Anyway, the audience was brutal. Some folks were even screaming
'Bring back Sammy!!!'. Let me tell you, there were a lot of pissed off folks. Even the local radio stations after the show were trying to calm people down.

i really feel sorry for gary.
that guy has more class under his pinky fingernail than just about anybody - especially other VH frontmen.

imagine the strength it takes to persevere through an experience like that.

hey, i realize it didn't work. no one can deny that, especially now. however, even though i didn't particularly care for gary's live look and aspects of his writing, i totally respected his singing ability and never booed him at the shows. that's just disrespectful and stupid.

his brother, though, delivered a funny take on the whole thing that only a brother is allowed to -- very funny when taken in context.
