Bluesman Top Jimmy dies of liver failure

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Top Jimmy, an influential, hard-rocking bluesman on the L.A. club scene in the 1980s, has died of liver failure. He was 46. James Paul Koncek found his greatest fame in a Van Halen song named after him, but he was a friend and supporter of many L.A. rock acts, including X and the Blasters. Fronting the Rhythm Pigs, his live shows were legendary for their power and bluster, but he recorded only two minor albums and was best known for covers such as the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues." His regular "Blue Monday" gig at the Cathay de Grand club in Hollywood attracted celebrity performers such as Tom Waits. Koncek moved to Las Vegas in 1993 to care for an ill sister, and died there Thursday after a battle with hepatitis. A memorial service is being planned in Los Angeles.

R.I.P. Tom Jimmy. Does anyone out there have any of his music? I must confess I've never heard any of it...

I do know this much: Top Jimmy is getting cranked in my CD player when I get in my car to go home today! Always loved that tune!

Tom Jimmy is an example of a song that David can do BRILLIANTLY but Sammy (though I like him too) would NOT be able to pull off with the swing that Dave puts in it.

RIP Top Jimmy. Without him, VH wouldn't have song that has one of Ed's best solos.
