There's a link to www.guitar.com at the VHND. In the interview on that site, Sammy claims to have sold 62 million records in his career. Here's the Official VH site tally;
5150-6.9 million
OU812-4.4 million
FUCK-3.8 million
RHRN-2.5 million
Balance-2.9 million
Best Of VH-2.4 million
-----------------------
=22.9 million
So Sammy is saying that he has sold 39.1 million records outside of Van Halen?
Did one of Sammy's solo albums sell an astronomical number of copies, or is Sammy using some fuzzy math here?

Sammy always has a tendency to inflate his numbers. I believe in his solo career he's sold about 11 or 12 million. That's with a shit-load of albums.
Whatever the case, he's been a part of some huge things.

Awards:
SAmmy was here in 98 promoting one of his solo albums (nice of him to bother releasing one here for a change) and claimed 'over 70 million'
W've been down this before, checked the official RIAA figures and it's quite clearly a crock... a figure closer to 40 million would be a bit more like it. I dunno if anyone remembers this, I remember Brett was involved.. it was a long time ago though, I think it was before I was a mod, so thats last january or february.
Then again Dave (jokingly) claimed he could take an entire country 'out to lunch' on the proceeds of DLR band

Depends on what country it is! Maybe it's Zimbabababababawe or North Bumfuck.

Sammy Hagar is the "Al Gore" of musicians.
I'm suprised that Sammy hasn't claimed that he also invented the cd player.

RIAA figures are US only. 30-35 million is maybe reasonable for Van Hagar worldwide.

Well think about it. Here are all of the albums he's released outside of Van Halen:
Montrose (w/Montrose)
Paper Money (w/Montrose)
Nine On A Ten Scale
Sammy Hagar (The "Red" Album)
Musical Chairs
All Night Long
Street Machine
Danger Zone
Turn Up The Music
Red Hot
Standing Hampton
Three Lock Box
VOA
I Never Said Goodbye
The Best Of Sammy Hagar
Unboxed
Marching To Mars
Red Voodoo
Ten 13
and the HSAS album
That's about 20 albums. So you think that selling about an average of $1.95 million per album doesn't sound right?

Maybe he's counting the records the band sold with Dave as his own. In all seriousness thoug Sam was recently in Toronto promoting his new CD and appeared on a couple of shows that I happened to catch. I think they staed the number as around 40 million which seems a bit more reasonable.

Add the soundtracks for Fast times,Heavy Metal and footloose. Now do the numbers seem to fit? Of course they do. What is everyones problem? Is everyone getting so negative we are bashing Sammy now?

Unless Hagar is bigger outside the US, than he was in the US, he hasn't sold that many albums.

That figure seems a bit high to me, but if someone wants to show how it's accurate, I'd be happy to hear it. I'm not bashing Sammy, I'm a fan of his.

I'm not bashing Sam either just making a little joke. Hell I love the guy but like Glen and a few others think the sixty million figure is probably a bit high.

Maybe he's including Pat Buchanan's album sales in Florida.

I remember we went into this way back in some depth quite a while back, and I really doubt Sam is bigger O/S than in the US (seeing he rarely bothers even releasing albums here for example) - but this isnt sammy bashing, its just pretty obvious hes overstating the figures!
