Goo, I think you're prematurely closing my posts because you're confusing me with a certain liberal. Oh yeah, just so you don't close this one because of VH content... VH Rules, but Eddie hasn't written a solo which was perfectly suited for a song since Fair Warning! Discuss amongst yourselves.

I agree that he's wearing thin on the same old tired solo (or at least, solo concepts), but every now and then something good creeps out, like the Amsterdam Solo.I've got the cure you're thinking of.
------------------
Remixed! I don't know dude. Seems like even on 1984 he started whiping out solos with a random flurry of notes just for the sake of the solo, not the song. I like the ones like "So this is Love?" and "The cradle will rock" much better. They are so much a part of the song that the song would be much less without them. Can't make that statement for much from 1984 on. Along those lines, Elliot Easton also rocks. Even if you don't like the Cars.

Hm. If I were to pick a set of Ed solos from each album that seemed to be almighty Ed, in terms of I'd have a hard time seeing something other than a variation of what he plays (other than just BS that sounded good), I'd say...
You Really Got Me
I'm the One
Ice Cream Man
Somebody Get Me a Doctor
Romeo Delight
Hear About It Later
So This Is Love?
Hang 'Em High
Panama
Hot For Teacher
5150 (I'm talkin' LWAN)
Judgement Day
Right Now
Top of the World
Amsterdam
Feelin'
I haven't heard him play the 2 with Dave off of Best Of, and I wish he'd play something else for Human's Being, and they didn't play enough III for me to get an opinion.
I also left out the Ed guitar solo tracks because I'm talking in the context of a song. But for me, the above mentioned are quintessential Ed.I've got the cure you're thinking of.
------------------
Remixed! Feel Your Love Tonight is one of my all time favs for guitar solos. Fits the song perfectly, Starts easy, then kicks you in the teeth.

Well John... the solo in Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do gives me a woody everytime I hear it... not much shreding but heavy on the soul...
Are you sure you're not a shred sheep...?

The only problem is the "bubble-gum" theme to that song turns my stomach. I does likes the shred though! Especially when it starts slow and melodic, then peaks with fury! (Kinda like fine lovin', huh?)

Mr. Ashcroft, please edit the title of this thread to something about the VH topic in discussion. Then I'll move it to the Songs and Albums forum.

Well, I gotta go deal with my mechanic, so I'm gonna resolve this now. If you want to start a thread to Goo, do so in the Feedback forum. If you want to start a thread about Van Halen songs and/or albums, do so in the Songs/Albums thread. Main doesn't need to be a dumping ground for everything. Sound good?
Closing this.
