As a DLR fan, I want to see Diamond Dave front VH again. BUt IF that is never going to happen, I could only wish that Ed does something with Chris Cornell.

If you have heard the new song from Cornell and Rage Against the Machine (Audio Slave), you may know what I mean.

I would have never thought Cornell and Rage Against the Machine were compatible, but wow! "Cochise" is a kick-ass song. The kind of stuff I only wish VH would do.

If Ed is not bringing Dave back, I can only prey he hooks up with a singer like Chris Cornell for a new project.

Funny that you should post this topic, I have been waiting for someone to bring up that new song, because I can't beleive how terrible it is, CC sounds like he is dying, and the song is your typical sellout to that "Mad at Dad" crap that is on the radio nowadays.
The worse thing that could happen is for Eddie and company to hook up with CC, it would be taking a step back.

There are some good cuts on that CD. I think Cochise is not one of the better songs on that CD.
Your favorite band sucks.

I think "Van Cornell" wouldn't be too bad, maybe he would add a little insight to the group. The guy has a voice,he's like a modern day Robert Plant.

Chris Cornell isn't a big fan of VH in general.

VH is dead, folks. Sorry to say it. It's a nostalgia trip. I'll miss it.

Great call. I wouldnt have minded hearing some demos of VH with Cornell. That dude has a mother of a voice and is a great frontman. I had a feeling when Tom, Brad and Timmy from RAGE anounced they where hooking up with this cat that it was gonna wail. I dig Audioslave. It is a brand new band and it has nothin to do with RAGE.
Which is a smart move cuz I couldnt see Chris rapping! lol...

Tom Morello is awesome. The guy has said he grew up on everything from Led Zep & Sabbath to Van Halen & Ozzy w/Randy Rhoads to The Clash & Public Enemy. He even digs and cut his teeth on Al Dimeola & Allan Holdsworth!
At metalsludge.com they had a 20 questions with Tom Morello recently and they asked him to rate guitar players on a scale of 1-10, 1 being a hack and 10 a virtuoso. The first player they asked him to rate was Eddie VH. Tom simply said "Um, that dude's probably a 10."
And it was the only 10 Tom handed out to any of the players he was asked about...

I've been pro Cornell or some like talent
for a revamped VH since Gary got the boot.
It ain't gonna happen with him, though -
Audioslave is getting the big push right
now. I just wish the Rage guys had nabbed Matt Cammeron along with Chris, he's a much
groovier drummer.
Sam and Dave are both equally embarassing now,
though in completely differnt ways. Regrouping
with either of them would be a giant step back
for Ed, IMHO. Here's hoping for something better,
although I can't imagine what that might be...
Anyhoo, always fun to play the Supergroup Scenario
and here's my take:

Ed
Chris Cornell
Neil Peart
Flea

or

Ed
Chris Robinson
Tommy Lee
Billy Sheehan

I loved Soundgarden, but Chris Cornell has the tendincy to sound like total crap live.

I have heard him sound amazing, but most of the time mainly just crappy, really crapy.

I have only heard "Cochise", but I stand by by last statement, it kicks-ass! And its a great video too. So I think we will have to agree to disagree.

I'm probably biased since Soundgarden is one of my favourite bands, along with VH.

I don't think think Cornell should join VH, but I would like to see Eddie get into some kind of "super-group" with Cornell.

I wonder if the support of a Cornell-type singer happens to break down on any sort of age line.

I'm 35 and have never been a big Cornell fan. To me he always seemed to be strained. And after hearing Gary reach for some of those notes, the last thing I want to hear on a VH album is someone straining. I just wonder if the younger members of this board tend to dig Cornell more than some of the older fans.

No matter who the singer ends up being, if it's too high to sing comfortably, make Eddie change the key or sing it an octive lower. No more "dog calls" on VH albums, please...

Cornell has the best voice in rock today??A modern day Robert Plant??You are kidding me right, the song is terrible, it sounds like he is way over his range..It kills me some of the people on here, Sammy gets blasted for his vocals on Balance, but Cornell sounds great??Goes to show the caliber of musical knowledge on the board.
That other guy in the rumor mill Jeff Scott Soto( if I have it right) is a thousand times the singer Cornell is, I mean its a no-brainer for anyone with musical knowledge, I find it hard to imagine anyone that calls themselves a VH fan old or new, that they could like this Audioslave shit or Nickelback or any of this Mad at Dad music that is out there, it is in total contrast to VH is all about..

Well that's the closemindedness that pisses me off about a lot of music fans. I love VH. I also love Pearl Jam. I guess someone can't be happy sometimes, and sad others. *GASP*, what a fuckin' concept!!!!!! My favorite 2 bands are Van Halen and Stone Temple Pilots. All of my friends and bandmates are pretty open minded, and I get laughed at for being a Van Halen fan. VH is about partying, unfortunately, because Sammy and Dave have made it that way. But the reality is, most of us actually have multiple emotions. 'Jump' doesn't describe me all the time. But it's about time in '92 someone talked about school shootings, such as in 'Jeremy'. That song was way ahead of its time. Shit happens man, and sometimes I feel bad. To me, that is staying true to the emotional quality of music. Pain and suffering is what has brought about most 'great' songs. To be so closeminded as to NOT appreciate that genre of music, or say that you can't be a fan of VH if you do, is offensive to me, to say the least.

Judging like that, you are that guy that spent an hour in my face at the music store I work at berating me cause I had the 'nerve' to tell him I liked Clapton better than Hendrix. Hell, how could I know better? I didnt' LIVE through that time, so my opinion isn't valid. Stupid. I've forgotten more music than that guy has ever known. Cochise kicks fuckin' ass. Cornell has been through a lot of pain, with two of his best friends dying (Jeff Buckley and Layne Staley), and abuse of substances. He was probably a bit pissed writing that song. Good for him. He's not LYING to himself like Eddie is. God love Eddie, but how true to the music could he have been--the fucker is miserable and we all know it. Even Sam and Dave agree on it. THAT is what makes that music so good.

And the Audioslave album kicks ass. It's better than the last 3 or so albums VH released. By the time Eddie started writing 'meaner' music, like on Balance, he was so not used to telling the truth in his writing, he couldn't do it without sounding fake.
