Definitely the most underrated of the first six albums (IMO anyway). It's hard for me to pick an absolute favorite song off this one, but if I had to, I guess I'd go with Somebody Get Me A Doctor. How 'bout you?
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne
"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

Lots of great tunes and when you consider they did this album in a matter of days, there probably isn't another album done as quickly that stands up to it, by VH or anyone else. I have many favorites on this album, but always wind up picking "Somebody Get Me a Doctor". I'm pretty sure this song existed when they were doing the first album, and wonder how it got passed over.
Possibly, they hadn't worked it down to it's VHII
form, I think the original live solo was much longer, as well as the different intro, part of which I think Ed used on "One I Want" on VHIII.
This is a great fucking album, right behind Fair Warning as far as my favorite VH.John 3:16, Can You Dig It?
People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?
You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?
And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!
We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

I've gotta go with LIGHT UP THE SKY. I think the whole band is brilliant on this one. Alex's drum part is brilliant in the middle, Ed's chords are awesome and really different in the verse, and the vocals are awesome.

Of course the first four albums are completely flawless, so narrowing it down to one song was difficult.
But it was D.O.A. that made me haul my 12 year old ass to the mall on my bike and buy this album the day it was released, and that's still one of my all time Van HALEN favorites. It definitely had better be in the set list when the "inevitable" tour happens.Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

Something about the groove to Somebody Get Me a Doctor just blows me away. 22, 23 years ago whhen I head that song for the first time, I had never heard a song begun that way in my life--it just seemed so perfect. I love how Dokken rips it off note for note on "Into the Fire"...
Actually, this entire record blows me away. After W&C in 1980 I backtracked and VHII was the second VH record I got into.
Whatever didn't end up on the debut fell into VHII; and it's incredibly short--what, under 35 min.? Oh YEAH...(pretty smile)

I'm not gonna vote on a Van Halen album I hold very dearly in my heart.
When I was a reborn Van Halen fan, due to 5150, I went searching for my long lost love, 1984. My cousin, who was a huge Van Halen fan, always mentioned Spanish Fly. It'd been about two years since I heard 1984, so I bought Van Halen II cause I saw "Spanish Fly" and thinking fuck, maybe this has Jump on it. This was about 9 to 10 years ago.
I popped VH II in my Walkman, and I could not fucking believe, these sounds, were made by human beings. From the Album cover, to the songs, everything about this is cool, and I've always summed up Van Halen to be the EPITOME OF COOL, and still do.
If someone held a gun to my head, just for the fuck of it, I guess I'd have to say "Dance the Night Away or Light Up the Sky, Who's up for Russian Roulette"?FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!

I think it is extremely cool that Light Up The Sky has received so many votes... I thought I was in the minority with that being my favorite song from II!
Even so, this was a very tough choice. By choosing Light Up The Sky, I feel like I am dissing D.O.A., SGMAD, and Bottoms Up!... all of which are incredible!

The whole album jams...I usually default to DTNA as my favorite because of memories attached to it...DOA is a close second...
Can't stop...addicted to the shindig...
