I think what he said was "I'm not going to play any old shit for the punk asses out there recording this..." or something to that effect...
With all the bickering that the VH fans do (myself included) no wonder Ed has an attitude..."Keep honking buddy. I'm reloading..." -The Mard
"......HEY!.............alright............." -BIG FOOT
" I know what you're thinking: "Do I want to watch Mard? We know that horses were very strong and could actually stop airplanes from flying away. The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? I mean, YAWN!
But if you're willing to sit through this dry sort of historical drama one more time -- or even just this dry historical review -- you will not be disappointed. In fact, some of you might just learn something they didn't teach you in school!- MARD-The Movie

I dont have the sricle to post but I read it and I KNOW that it wasnt:
"I'm not going to play the old shit to all the punk ass fans!"
I'll look for it...VHWalkathon - Project 316

EVH: The music is first and foremost. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will always be. Because without the music, what is there? Nothing. There's nothing without the music. You can't even cop an attitude without the music (laughs).

Ok here it is...
After turning around and explaining that he had not been playing much guitar lately, just piano and cello, (cello?) he played a few vintage riffs before stopping and telling the crowd that he didn’t want to play anything old for the “punk-asses” that were inside with their video recorders, taping the event.
HE NEVER said ANYTHING about the THE FANS!

Yeah, but it's probably pretty fair to say that most people who would bother to tape Edward playing are his fans, no??
Anyway, FAB, deep breath and dig us up some more cool pics of Ed!!

*Inhales* I agree with your point Glenn but there are also alot of people who are not TRUE fans (Like me and VH Spirit ) who want to tape that type of stuff to sell it and make a profit. There are probably people who hit NAMM to do just that, not just with ED, but with anyone famous who performs there. I just think the NAMM thing has run it course and we all need to move on... It bums me out to see people who post here, taking something, molding it into something else and then starting a new topic about it... Are we fans or not? *Exhales*
More pics to come... Just need to find a break in the work load to post them...
OK... I'm done!

Why does he care if anyone is taping it? What, is he playing something new that we haven't heard before? He's practically been playing the same guitar solo live for 20 plus years so why does he care about it being taped???

Well maybe it's because his SO CALLED FANS spend a great deal of their time on message boards like this tearing him apart. Maybe he doesn't trust the fans or anyone else at this time in his life. I think that Ed made a mistake going to NAMM in the condition that he was in. Maybe he used his better judgement and decided not to play anything because he knew he was not in any shape to do so and he didnt want it getting around that he had lost his gift. maybe the statement about it being taped was just his excuse. Jeeze if Eddie said the sky was falling I bet everyone would look up!
Then slam him cuz it didnt fall!VHWalkathon - Project 316

EVH: The music is first and foremost.
