Achievements:
At the official site of the HOF it states this regarding the induction process;
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record.

Frankly, I find it shocking that Sabbath and AC/DC are just now being inducted. If they didn't get in on the first ballot, I doubt VH would anyway.

I disagree, I don't think there's any question VH gets in first time out. VH was far bigger stateside than AC/DC or Sabbath in their prime. You take "Back In Black" out of AC/DC's arsenal, their record sales are nothing spectacular.

Case in point. Sabbath has been more commercial in near years of past. Maybe not everyone so to speak but they make an effort to be seen(Ozzfest).Van Halen just doesn't do it. The rock and Roll hall of fame is about commercialnalism(god is that even a word) You know what I'm saying. ABBA is even on the ballot. I can almost guarantee they will be inducted. If Van Halen doesn't want to be seen. Sure as hell they won't be there.

Yeah I realize VH has been dead in recent years, but their album sales compared to Sabbath aren't even close. Sabbath isn't even in the same universe with VH that way. If it's about commercialism and public popularity, VH far outshines Sabbath in that respect. Hell Sabbath wanted no part of that anyway.

Yeah, from what I've read ozzy and co. keep sending the nomination back cos they think it's too elitist.
I think ozzy would feel like a fuckin idiot getting up there and pretending to say thankyou.
thankyou for ostrisizing us for 30 years.
Van halen will accept, for sure ,but it won't be next year.

Like it or not, AC/DC is the biggest selling heavy metal group of all time. Over 100 million albums sold worldwide.
Of course, I still like VH better, but facts are facts, you know.I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

It's their biggest, by far, but they've had 4-5 other albums that sold 5 million or more also. That ain't too shabby. You would have to put VH1 and 1984 together to equal Back in Black's sales.
Both of these statements, if true, absolutely shock me to the core! Are we talking American sales?
For Back in Black to have sold more than 1984 & VH1 combined, would mean it has sold more than 20 million copies. That is astounding. I had no idea.
Regarding AC/DC having 5, or even 4 other albums that have sold 5 million......I dunno. In U.S. sales??? (the only figures most of us care about) Doesn't sound right to me, but hey, I've learned more on this site than I EVER did over at the PD.
Hey, I was stunned to hear that Balance has sold 3 million albums. Seems like just a year ago over at the PD, people were saying it had sold a shade over 2 million.
My world has been rocked.
Brett, turn off the power, crash the site, my lord.....DO SOMETHING!!! This is scary!
My understanding (limited) understanding of sales was that 5150 sold around 5 mill, ou812 sold around 3, Unlawful sold around 3, and Balance *barely* sold 2. I thought VH3 *barely* made platinum.
How are statistics so varied accross different boards?

Except that the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is not a record sales contest, it's supposed to be based on influence to the general music community and the fans. Conversely, what it really is is a popularity contest as voted by a bunch of critics who are now in their 40s and 50s and who traditionally do not like heavy metal.

According to the RIAA website, ACDC has sold 63 million, and Van Halen 50.5 million.
ACDC's best selling multi-platinum albums, in descending order:
Back In Black - 19 million
Highway to Hell - 6 million
Dirty Deeds - 6 million
Who Made Who - 5 million
For Those About to Rock - 4 million
Razor's Edge - 4 million
Live - 3 million
Let There Be Rock - 2 million
Live Collectors Edition - 2 million
Ballbreaker - 2 million
High Voltage - 2 million
Note: Van Halen's catalog, with the exception of a couple of records, have not been recertified recently. With the release of the "remasters" nearly two years ago, and the length of time be certifications, Van Halen's numbers would improve. Best guess, esp. from estimates given at the official site, would place VH in the 62 - 67 million range. Just a guess, though.

And jus b/c I know you guys wanna know, here is the VH breakdown, in addition to the last year of certification by the RIAA in parens:
VH: 10 million (1996)
VH II: 4 million (1990)
WACF: 3 million (1994)
FW: 2 million (1994)
DD: 4 million (1998)
1984: 10 million (1999)
5150: 5 million (1994)
OU812: 3 million (1989)
FUCK: 3 million (1994)
RH,RN: 2 million (1993)
Balance: 2 million (1995)
BoVI: 2 million (1998)
III: 0.5 million (1998)
Total: 50.5 million
If recertified, I would guess the following totals:
VH: 13 million
VH II: 6 million
WACF: 5 million
FW: 4 million
DD: 5 million
1984: 12 million
5150: 7 million
OU812: 5 million
FUCK: 4 million
RH,RN: 3 million
Balance: 3 million
BoVI: 3 million
III: 0.5 million
My guess - about 60.5 million, which is a little below my initial guess above.
I doubt anyone cares as much as I do, since I have a fascination with charts and sales, etc. She's as strong as the mountains, walks tall as a tree.

Olen,

Feel free to opine in the polls I got running in the Songs, Albums, Videos Forum. Help out a fellow chart/stats freak!
The Real Deal
PS: Hard to believe 'OU812' hasn't been recertifed in 13 years. Hope this is rectified soon... The Real Deal does old VH better than any other band in the SF Bay Area. Hearing is believing...

If Trump wins, not sure what there is to celebrate or take from it. He beat Biden, one of the least liked candidates in history and a bad POTUS. If Biden wins, not sure what there is to celebrate...
