Do you think that Warner Bros might get off of their collective asses? Before, they didn't seem to care or push. But, according to the Wall Street Journal, music sales for WB fell 22% in the second quarter! One executive said "It would take unusual momentum in terms of a mega album to compensate for the first half." Maybe, since the best selling albums of the year so far are Shaggy, NOW6, and the Beatles 1, the powers that be won't be such a 'stand in the way' problem. In other words, if these are WB lawyers, they are only costing themselves. Hopefully, we can tell them about a mega album before long.

WB probably wants this reunion more than even DLR. It'll sell millions of albums, especially the 6 they remastered last year. I doubt they're the roadblock.

I wouldn't think WB is the root. It's probably a Dave thing. He may be asking
for a multi-album arrangement with VH that the boys just aren't willing to guarantee.
Dave's probably got more aces in his hand right now cuz he's almost in a position where they need him more than he needs them.
So he may be holding out to get as much of a long-term gurantee out of this as he can.

i remember back in 1985 when almost everyone said it was the end of van halen cause dave left.....enough said. never underestimate this band. the music will last a lot longer than anything else. as for the band needing dave more than he needs them...please.

For some folks, VH did die in 1985. It's just a different point of view.
As for them needing Dave more than Dave needs them, just do the math. Dave's out there playing the music, while VH is... turning blue.
No matter what you may think of what Dave is doing, he is doing something. You can't say that for VH.

Van Halen and Dave both need each other now, but Dave definitely needs VH more than they need him. While VH has few options left, they still have enough name recognition to explore different roads. That doesn't mean they'll be wildly successful ever again, but they do have options.
Dave has less options available to him, and his current career move (much like the one previous to it) is a great indicator of that. Dave has painted himself into a corner (with the help of an industry that hasn't allowed him to stretch out) and has only one really viable option left, which is being back in Van Halen.
If the VH thing doesn't work out, I'd like to see Dave take another crack at the solo career, but I know it's a VERY limited road for him, and I get the distinct impression he feels the same way. I still hope he doesn't abandon that though, because I believe he has something to offer even if it isn't with Van Halen.
For me though, Dave just CAN'T make a career out of trotting out the Van Halen tunes every other year for a nostalgia tour. It would be a sad way to end an amazing career.

Dave's got no expectations at this point, though. We've pretty much written him off except for the possibility of VH. That leaves a lot of doors available to him, in a sense. Freedom from expectations, you might say.
Does the same hold true for VH? I'm not so sure.

And I totally agree that VH has the weight of expectations on themselves (put largely there by their own silence).

He can do Vegas again if he likes, or some things that aren't rock and roll. Or he can go ahead and do the solo road again. There won't be any expectations boxing him in.

Dead ends are nice to live on, but if you're just passing through you have to do some backtracking.

Here is what I want. David Lee Roth to re-unite with the Yankee Rose band ( Vai and Sheehan). Van Halen to re-unite with Sammy Hagar.

Do you think Vai and Sheehan have anything left to do with Dave?

Sure! They only made two albums together. Steve Vai said earlier this year he would like to get back in a band with a singer, and Mr. Big isn't very popular anymore.
Steve and Billy seemed to love playing together when I saw them live on the G3 tour. It would be great!
I would love to see Yankee Rose played live with that band! Right Now you're reading my post!
