From the CDNow web site (http://cdnow.com/misstruth/from=adn:x:cdn:0313)
We've always known David Lee Roth was a little peculiar, but now we're pretty sure he has actually flown over the cuckoo's nest.
Selected journalists recently received two VHS copies of David Lee Roth's No Holds Bar-B-Que, and all we have to say is, "What the hell is this?"
The extended video opens with Roth flailing about in a large city in some sort of Kung Fu/T'ai Chi-style dance with swords and poles. From there, it only gets stranger. Roth dresses up like a sailor and hosts a luau, hunts gorillas in the jungle, sports a ninja costume (while his cover of Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" plays in the background), and plays with more swords (did we mention there are a lot of swords in this video?).
Not only that, but we also see Roth in army fatigues, carrying some sort of rocket launcher, wandering about a dark cave (presumably hunting for Osama Bin Laden?); cavorting with pregnant girls drinking Bud Light; and dressing as an Arab sheik -- all "live from the Mojo Dojo."
Stranger yet is the fact that spokespeople for Roth at the Mitch Schneider Organization sent the tapes with no further explanation (why two for goodness sake?) and refused to elaborate further when contacted. "For now, it is what it is," said a spokesperson. Whatever!
All we know is if Eddie Van Halen needed one more reason to not bring back Roth as Van Halen's singer, this is it!

Maybe this is why Dave hung-up on me on February 8, 2002, when I asked him about his DVD.

Looks like it's a spin-off company. So Dave is working with a PR firm who doesn't have him on their list of artists....

Back about 3-4 years ago, the station I was working for got hooked up with Dave's people to do a phoner. He was wanting to promote his book or upcoming tour. Anyway, we get it all lined up.
DLR calls in, we have a hoot-nanny of a good time and I ask him for a few "station liners". These are those things you hear an artist say personalizing a radio station.
"Hi, this is Eddie Van Halen and when I'm in Chicago, I ALWAYS listen to the Loop."
Whatever...you know what I'm talking about.
So anyway, we give Dave our call letters and roll tape, expecting a liner like the example above. Instead, we got 25 seconds of gibberish and fairy tales that went nowhere and everywhere. I'm thinking to myself "is he serious? Did he even hear me? What in the world is he even saying?"
Nervous laughs from me and the other jock in the studio, DLR promises us "lifetime passes to the Mojo Dojo / Club Dave"...yadda yadda yadda. End of interview.
2 weeks later, we get 2 (there is that magic number again) "personalized" DLR station liner CD's. No note, no description, no nothing. Just the CD's. More of the same 25-40 second liners of gibberish. Odder still, 1 week later we get 2 more cd's entitled something like "David Lee Roth's 4th of July Adventures". It's got all these old 1950's western girlie pics all over it. I give it a listen and it's Dave wandering thru a crowd, interviewing people about nothing yet seemingly in touch with whatever they were saying.
Again, I was more than mystified by this bizzare behavior I'd been privy to experience. I wondered how many times he'd fallen on his head since 1996 'cause he sure didn't sound lucid or sane.
Flash ahead now to the latest CDNow review of the much ballyhooed "DLR BBQ" DVD. It's a lot like I thought it'd be...

I really hope this DVD is kool and doesn't suck, but who knows???
if it sucks, my justification will be, "Ahhh folks, it's justthe great great smokescreen of the VH REUNION!!!!"
Just imagine what kind of record deal a reunited Van Halen could get???? hmmmmmmmmmmm

You know, and I mean this totally seriously, reading that review makes me think that Dave should give Vince (World Wrestling Federation) McMahon a call.

Once again....can you blame Eddie? Dave has gone whacko since 96. It's sad really, but he's gone nuts.

"Miss Truth" has been known for all the journalistic credibility of a supermarket tabloid, and the last little sentence proves the anti Roth bias. Having said that, this still isn't a good sign.........

Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

cavorting with pregnant girls drinking Bud Light
*shakes head*--It's times like these I am ashamed to call myself a Van Halen fan of any kind.

I still remember practicing the intro to FA. I find the intro really moody and melancholic. Quite unusual for VH. The solo was a bit too weird to me to play though. There were like three guitars...
