Sammy's Van Halen 'salute'

I saw someone doing the two "I love you" hand thingy that Sammy used to do...in a video for 'Dream On' by Aerosmith. I was just curious about the origins of the salute...I've been to numerous shows and have only seen it at VH gigs...just curious!

do the thing with your right hand and take a good look at it...

i see a V and a H... that makes a VH simble...
am i tripping???

I for one have always thought it was a vagina.
The first VH show I went to was the OU812 tour, and everyone was doing it, and sticking there tounges through it.
