Not having a tremendous understanding in marketing of album sales, it is sort of infered in threads that if the new CD has a mass appeal to the younger generation, the Album will sell several million copies. Do you think the new DLR Van Halen will have this capacity and ability?

If they get back in the style that they were in before when Dave was in the band, i think so. I think with Dave Van Halen is a completely different animal. Dave gets up there goin' crazy singin' about drinkin' beer and kickin' ass, and it seems like the music is alot more i dunno, i guess its more "rock n roll" with Dave so it seems. Whereas if they were getting back with Sammy or something i dont think young people would really get turned on or care. Van Halen was more of a kinder gentler Van Halen with feelings when Sammy was in the band. I think with a wild guy and party guy like Dave it just changes the whole style and i think young people will definitely be in to it. If you notice when Kiss got back together, they were no longer the bad asses they were in the 70's. They put on a great show and were still cool, but they just werent dangerous and the Psycho Circus cd was weak with weak mushy lyrics. I dont think this will happen with Van Halen now that Dave is supposedly back. Time for Van Halen rock about beer drinkin' and ass kickin'!!!

I think that it would be a MAJOR mistake if Halen started worrying about whether the younger generation liked the new music. I think that is one of the problems in the music industry. There are so many groups that almost (if not) purposely pander to teenagers. I'm becoming increasingly of the opinion that most kids today wouldn't know real, good, talented music if it hit them on the freaking head. I think that the bands that are the most successful are the bands that basically say "screw what's popular or trying to appeal the this group or that, we're going to do what we want." Some examples of bands like these are: DIO, Dream Theater, Symphony X, AC DC, Yngwie, and Racer X. Remember, Halen started out at the hieght of the (shudder) disco era. I think that Halen's lasting power is directly correlated to their constant pursuit to make good, rock n roll music that is above any fads.

Good points from both of you guys (Alchemy +VH Coolest). I am DAMN READY for some beer drinkin' and ass kickin'. THAT is what has been missing for the last few years from VH. Maybe throw a few guns and some bikinis and you've got yourself some classic VH.
It is true though that VH can't be intentionally trying to cater to teenyboppers. All that ends with is this "manufactured" music shit. If you can call it music. If VH does that, I will kill them so they can't ruin their own classic image anymore (just kidding, no need to send the FBI to my house). Anyways, I think that if VH comes out with the fire that they had when Dave was there and the kickass and the scantily clad women and the beer and guns and stuff, young people will buy it. Look at Kid Rock. All he ever talks about is porn stars and beer and he sold over 7 million albums. And he doesn't even have any talent. I do like, however, how he has brought back the true image of a rock star. I'll give him that much. In conclusion, if VH comes out with the kickass the had back in the day, maybe we could see a return of music. Will it happen, I'd say partially, but there isn't much way they can kick as much ass as they used to.
