This is what I think VH should do if they don’t get either Dave or Sam back. It’s obvious that the band doesn’t want to work with either of these guys anymore & that’s fine, it’s their band & they’re the one’s who have to deal with these guys day in & day out.

Retire the name Van Halen. They could call themselves Joe Schmoe & Eskimoes for all I care. Go back to their roots & just start doing “jams” like the old Cream stuff that the brothers (& I) love so much.

Van Halen has already made a name for themselves in Rock n Roll history. Fuck the major labels, they should play what they want to play & not be forced to get back with somebody that they don’t like. The music will suffer as would the live show, it would be too phony & we’ll all get ripped off. Don't get me wrong, I wanna see VH with Dave, if they can get along, but too much shit has gone down over the years between these guys. There is just too much bad blood there. Sad....but true.

Keep the band as a 3 piece, doing mostly instrumentals, long extended jams. Obviously the 3 of them like to work together & there’s no reason why they shouldn’t stay together. They can’t get a fourth singer, that's not even an option right now, there would be too many people pissin’ & moaning about Dave & Sam & all that crap. Problem solved, have Mikey sing a few tunes at the shows, he could do all 3 era’s. I know Mikey has said in the past that he doesn’t want to be the lead singer but if it’s only for a few VH tunes in concert, I think Mike would go for it. But mostly just have them jam for 2 – 2 ½ hrs. I’m a fan of the music, I could care less about the vocals. I JUST WANNA HEAR THESE MOTHERFUCKERS JAM!!!!!!!!

I know some of you will say that they won’t sell out Arena’s & all that crap.....True!

But think about, wouldn’t you prefer to go to a smaller venue like a 1,000 – 5,000 seater & see these guys wail & have your head blown off? Or would rather see them in a 15,000 – 20,000 seat arena & have shitty seats where the band is about the size of your fingernail? Me? I’d rather see them in a smaller venue, but that’s just me.

They really need to move on, because this thing with Dave, if it happens, isn’t gonna last long & they know it, they fuckin’ hate each other.

What the fuck do I know anyway? I’m just babbling......blah, blah, blah, blah.

Sounds good to me. As long as they drop the VH name. Small venues rock. That's the best way to see your favorite performer.

Since nothing's working out with lead singers, they might as well go on as a trio. I think it'd be awesome.

Hmm, where's the logic in that? You'd rather never hear anything from them again over hearing the three of them jam on something like, "The Van Halen Project"? I'm with Dangle on this one. If they can't work it out with a singer, I still want to hear them play.

Of Course it wouldn't be the same! That's what would make it so great. I've been wanting this to happen for a long time. I want to hear these guys play. it would be unpredictable, and they could do anything they want. I really trying hard to find a problem with this.

I don't think Van Halen has to have a lead singer to be creative. I think having a lead singer has actually held them back. Who wants them to do yet another pop song like they've done for 24 years? I'm not saying they did 100% pop songs, but I want them to do an album that has songs that blend together. Songs that work by themselves, but also fit together to form one big song! If they must sing on a few of the songs, get Mike to do it.

People want Dave because it is familiar and safe territory. I don't want that. I want to be surprised by every note.

As for the name, I don't care. If they keep it, that's fine, If they don't, that's fine too. Its his name, they've gone through three line up changes already with the same name. Honestly, the name is the least of their worries.

How old are you?

Obviously young enough not to realize what Van Halen has meant to rock-n-roll as a complete band and ONLY as a complete band! Singer, guitarist, bass player,
drummer!
I want Van Halen to be remembered this way in rock history! Great bands in history like
Zepplin or the Rolling Stones would never go out as an instrumental outfit would they?

If Edward wants to go out and do the " Carlos Santana" thing, cool...its just Edward
with guests: NOT VAN HALEN...the way it should be, if he decides to do that!

You were saying Van Halen doesn't need a singer to be creative? Well Van Halen isn't
praised for their instrumental tunes off their records are they? And I don't mean Edward and his solo tracks...I am talkin' bout the whole band. Of course they need a singer to continue! that's a ridiculous assumption, especially if you think Van Halen could continue that way!

People want Dave now because at this point in the world of Van Halen...its about the only way they can continue to be SUCCESSFUL Safe? Its safe to say, if it isn't DAVE...its the grave!

Bro, can you do us all a favor, and just foronce not slam the shit out of somebody for giving their opinion? This is a discussion board, where everyone is entitled to such.

This is not the first time that you've snidely questioned somebody's age in conjunction with their post. What the fuck does it matter? Personally, I could care less if someone was 12 and was supported VH doing whatever they chose to do. I would find that heartwarmingly intelligent, as a matter of fact.

Do you really not think that the other three members are talented enought to succeed without a singer? Now that's ludicrous. All three of those guys can whip anybody else in the game.

I'd like to see DLR back, too - it would be my preference. But they are far from dead without him. A DLR reunion would be the most commercially successful option for them, but they've made it clear that that is not their motivation.

Please don't continue to take someone else's positive, supportive posts and turn them into an embarrassment like this.

Great post,

I've long felt VH should release a CD with old live cuts, soundcheck jams and various stuff that never made the albums. I would love to see the three kick ass on a small venue tour. Maybe even have a guest vocalist pop up on stage if they happen to be in town on that particular night. They have made it pretty clear that a reunion tour is just not there main motivation at this point. It would be soooo cool if VH announced a tour with just the three of them and various guest artists...including other guitarists and such. As far as I know, they have never done this. Could you amagine the jams, creativity, great music that could be created in such a scenario. Many bands and artists do this type of thing all throughout their careers. Who gives a shit if they don't sell out huge arenas. They no longer need to. They've cemented their place in Rock and Roll history....Now they can satisfy themselves. I can see it now.....Van Halen and guests....October 21, 2001...The Stanley Theatre...Utica, NY....Fucking incredible.......Peace Brothers and Sisters

I couldn't agree with ya more. I happened to catch the Allman Brothers Band at a couple of small venues in the past & it was great, way better than seeing them at an arena or a shed, those places are just too big.

BS,
In my original post, I said they need to retire the name Van Halen if they we're to go down that road.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Brownsound2000: People want Dave now because at this point in the world of Van Halen...its about the only way they can continue to be SUCCESSFUL Safe? But the band "probably" doesn't want Dave back. Shouldn't that matter????? These guys are the ones that have to deal with each other & if they don't wanna play with this guy, they shouldn't have to. Who say's they will be "successful" again. They'll never be where they once were, that's a fact of life. It's not like these guys are an up & coming band who are trying to make a name for themselves. They've been there, done that. I'm not stupid, I know these guys wanna make some cash but they don't need to be the commercial success they once were. Think about it, if they try to be commercially successful in today's music, we'll get Aerosmith all over again. What would you prefer Van Aerosmith, who now make music for 16 year old girls or a wicked 3 piece-no holds barred-in your face-kick ass jams with no limitations. I think you would realize more, how good of musicians these guys are. There's no reason why these 3 guys shouldn't stay together.

In actuality it would be pretty sad if these guys retired because they couldn't work with Dave anymore. I don't want them to retire, I want them to jam until they can't jam no more.

I for one would not pay money to see the three remaining members jam. We don't need anymore Grateful Deay wanna-be's. Some music is great to listen to in extended fashion, i.e. jazz, but not Van Halen. There are not many bands who could pull something like this off. And, even though these fellas are extremely talented, I don't think they could jam endlessly every night and keep it fresh and exciting.
And doing a smaller tour like that with or without guest vocalists, is beneath them. And I think they would definitely agree to that.
Retire the band. R.I.P.
