Just wondering what exactly the former contract VH had with Warners. ie Can Warners release unreleased material, DVD footage of old concerts with Dave etc, now that the band have left the label, or does VH have the rights for all of those?
If Warners can, I think we would have more luck pestering them than VH to get something out there.

The deal apparently gives Warners the masters. In most cases, this means that the label has the right to unreleased material and can release whatever they want. Let's hope they know there will be a market for unreleased material. I mean, if there can be a fucking CHEAP TRICK boxed set packed with unreleased material, there can be a Van Halen one.

Maybe WB only got the masters of previously released material?

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

If VH and Roth reunite and do a reunion tour, I think Warners would really exploit it with all kinds of stuff. Could be a box set, maybe a live album from the old days, who knows. They would not be spending any money, on the tour or the new album, but they would be getting all kinds of free promotion. Because let's face it, VH will be pulling out songs from the old days, songs that could be appearing on the Warners Box Set. So I dont think you will see anything yet.

I wonder how much of a market there really is for unreleased and/or live VH material. There isn't a huge core of fans that are going to care about these things. It seems much more likely that WB will continue to repackage the 'hits' that the mainstream would know, throwing in a handful of unreleased tunes to keep us hard core fans buying every time.

While I think the box set is much more likely now, I'm not convinced it'll be very good. No way is it going to cater to the hard core fan; it'll have some rarities, but be more heavily weighted with the studio stuff we already have.
