I was in a CD store today and they had all of the Van Halen CD's on for either 10 or 11 dollars, which is much cheaper than usual and obviously an attempt to get rid of them before the remastered CD's come in. When the remasters are released, what will happen to those old CD's, will they still be available? I know when the Crue remastered theirs they took the old ones of the shelf here months before the re-release. But to this day I can still go into stores and see copies of the old CD of Live At Leeds by the Who, even though it was remastered a few years ago.

So does anyone know what will happen to those old Van Halen CD's?

They'll probably just sit there until someone buys them actually.

Glenn, the record company requests that all of the CDs be removed from the shelves once the remasters start coming in. When KISS and Iron Maiden remastered their CD collection a few years back, the existing CDs were removed and replaced with the new ones. Mind you they were not removed right away. You will see a few 'non-remastered' old CDs still hanging around when the new ones come out. However, they will soon be removed.

....i have a feeling , after everyone who buys the remasters , will buy the "original" recordings. the remasters will make the original recordings seem almost sacred...thats exactly what we see today with records.......shit i remember playing frizbe with records that are going for the price of small automobiles, because i had the cassette.......i thought i had the world by the ass...boy was i wrong !

It's all a brilliant ploy by WB when you think about it. Right now DLR VH material is going for what passes as "the nice price" - generally 5-7 dollars less than a brand new album.

Bang, WB remasters the things and slaps a full price $16.99 on there. VH releases a new album and people rush to buy the Dave albums. Now they have to pay full price for them instead of walking away for them at a discount.

Makes me wonder if we'll ever see a correction of the tragedy that is the mixing of OU812

glenn, knowing the tight fisted, money hungry, blood sucking industry that is the australian retail/record companies, they will not tell anyone that the remasters are on the way and milk every possible cent out of anyone who doesn't know better (i am not talking about diehard fans, but just the average joe who may have an interest in vh). this is the industry that jumped up & down and carried on when the federal government allowed the importation of cds made outside this country and allowed anyone to import and sell cds, thus freeing up the market and dropping the price of cds. here in australia, you are paying $33 for a recent release....which is just down and out bullshit. they screamed that the industry would be destroyed and young bands would suffer, yet, they never adjusted their f**cking figures to allow the up and coming bands to obtain greater shares of any profits, etc. god damn blood suckers!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but will the original versions go out of print?

I'm pretty sure that some of Ozzy's albums got remastered, and the original versions are still available.....

You know, this is pretty sad! I mean, I'm thrilled about the remasters, and I'd gladly (well maybe not GLADLY) spend the money for them, but now I feel like I should take my beloved copies of Fair Warning and the first album and all the rest and wrap them up in paper and put them in the attic or something. I think I'm going to cry...

Well "the Nice Price" isn't as "nice as it once was. I remember getting 1984 for $10 under "the Nice Price", but now everytime I see a VH CD under that label they cost between $12 - 13 which isn't quite as nice. I mean why drive up the price of the old copies when you're trying to get rid of them?

The closest HMV to me made me laugh a few weeks ago. They had 1984 and VH 1 on as "feature specials" and they were 16.99 each. You can get those CD's for 9.99 each at any other store in the city, so I don't know who HMV thinks they're fooling.

In response to Stuff No More:

I hope as you do that they reissue ALL the VH cd's. I know when they did that with the KISS cd's, it took a few months, but they did remaster the entire catalog. Hopefully, VH will follow suit.

    Lead Synth:

You are correct about Ozzy's music. He also got a bit of a musical "facelift" on his older catalog. I know that the only place I've seen anyone's older cd's are in pawnshops or used cd stores.

Talking about nice prices, I agree...why jack up the price on older product if you are trying to move it? A nice price for me on an older CD is about $6.99 or $7.99. I agree with you, too, Glenn...they're not fooling anyone with those claims to great prices when you can buy those titles normally at $9.99. That is about the ONLY redeeming quality of Circuit City.

You know what sucks? Walking into one of these record stores and seeing some awesome bands in the bargain bin. Around the time of BOV1 and just after, I never saw VH in there. But right after VH3, they started pouring in. First it was stuff like VHII and WACF, and after a while it went all the way up to FUCK. Guess it shows how much popularity VH lost with VH3.
