I as much as anyone am hugely awaiting the impending reunion with Roth. However, I can't believe there are VH "fans" out there that completely dismiss and disrespect the VH3 album. If you are a VH fan, you love the music. Although it is not "classic" VH, Eddie went way out and produced some terrific stuff on that album, aside from "How Many Say I." As for Gary, he has an integrity and lyrical depth that Roth and Hagar do not have and it really touched and influenced Eddie's music. Taken on its artistical merit, I think VH3 is a terrific album.
A true VH "fan" cannot ignore the graceful musicianship of the band (Eddie, Alex, Mike and Gary) on that album.

Because he is a new linker!!! Garywascooltoo Let me be the first to say "Welcome to the links"
I also think that Gary did a great job, considering the position he was in. I also belive with all my heart that Gary is the true reason Dave is in.

Before this gets shipped to the opinions section, I have a question for you and EVH.
Have you ever heard of the concept of a "solo album"?

First six albums rule. In addition, the following represent the only two Y2K release in the world that are preventing me from losing it altogether waiting for the VH reunion.

King's X Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous

Well, I for one love VH III. I didn't like it at all when I first heard it, and it took me many listens to really get into it, but now I find it to be a very beautiful and emotional album. I respect Edward for taking the band in that musical direction, knowing it would probably suffer lower sales.
Having said that, I'm not going to tell anyone who doesn't like it that they aren't a true Van Halen fan. Music is a very personal thing, what touches me doesn't touch someone else, and that's cool.
Welcome to the site.

My fault its not in the opinions. Thanks for the tolerence of those who recognized my newness to the links. I will still say Roth is the man. It is nice to find some who agree that it was a great album and Gary was a fine addition to the VH family, that just didn't work out for many reasons.

III is a good album. Is it a great VH or Cherone album?? No. But is it worthy of a listen? Yep. They were fuckin GREAT in concert!! Best Ive seen in a very long time.It was great to finaly hear all the Dave songs Sammy woudlnt sing. Gary is a TRUE VH fan and a nice guy. I for one miss him and hope he gets back with Extreem.

Got a bit of time on my hands right now, so I'll just keep putting stuff in here.
Glenn, your point well taken. Didn't mean to come across how I did. I guess I just wished the response to Gary in the band would have been better. I love it when Eddie goes in new directions and III was definitely that.
I did also see them live in '98 and it was friggin awesome. One thing above all, the entire band seemed to be having fun. Roth/Hagar/Cherone tunes were belted out and sounded great.
Maybe with that effort to reinvent the band, Eddie has lit the fire that will reinvigorate the band with Roth and the new album will be ass-kickin'.

At the end of the day, I like the music on the album for the purist of reasons. But, having said that, I must admit that hearing negative reaction to III gave me more and more motivation to go back to it and give it a chance. Criticism can tend to do that.

Van Halen 3 was the best album in 98 no doubt!!!
But yeah some fans disrespect VH3.
When I bought...i was so exite!!!...i remember this March Saturday afternoon when I bought it...i just canīt wait to list it...after almost 3 times to play it i said: "WOOW!!!!!!!!! MY GOD WHATA ALBUM!!!!"
But i got to admit vh3 is one of my least favorite VH albums...

I've said it before and I'll say it again VH3 and Gary were cool. I thought the album had some good stuff on it despite being dismissed by most fans. Gary did a great job when I saw the band in concert and it's really too bad that his tenure in VH will be judged solely on the basis of one album. It would have been interesting to hear the follow up to VH3 and I'm sure the material would have been even better than the stuff on VH3.

Agreed Mario--I would be interested to hear how the post-VH3 material turned out. Hopefully they had a better producer and they were no longer forcing Gary to sing like Sammy.
We'll find out whenever Box Set time comes around, I guess...(Glenn licks his chops at the mention of 'box set')
