Los Tres Gusanos was great. Though I was there to see Sammy for 3 days, I was really more excited about seeing Sam, Mike and David.
The gig ended after 70 minutes, which didn't please me too much, and Loni and I proceeded to jump in line for the next night's performance. This time, we were a little bit better prepared. I had a bought a nice Mexican blanket at Medano Beach ealier that day, so I used that and the hotel pillows to make ourselves as comfortable as possible. And, our places in line ensured us that we'd have access to our wristbands as soon as they went on sale, thus ensuring we'd be out of line and in bed 10 minutes after they went on sale. The night was actually a bit cool due to a storm that was supposedly moving in for that weekend. There was a lot of cloud cover, and for a while there we all thought it might actually rain. It didn't. But, there was a nice breeze that blew through the parking lot around 0200, and continued until around 0400. Once again, there was a health supply of scalpers in line with us, and, once again, Sammy's security people made sure they were yanked out of line as soon they appeared on scene in the morning prior to the ticket sale. Too bad they can't do that shit here in the U.S.!
Loni and I got our wristbands, went back to the hotel and bought 2 breakfast specials "to go". Back up to the room, ate 'em, and took a small nap. That afternoon was the actual REDhead Beach Party, and we were definitely going to this one. We met some fellow REDheads out front and shared a cab over to the beach. The moron never took us to Tobasco's like we asked, so we had to hoof it the rest of the way. We finally reached the party, and Loni and I proceeded to give Ray and Carla a hand. Thee were some pretty nice prizes they were giving away for that day's raffle, especially the Montrose bootleg. A perfectly great recording from the mid-70's, considering the type of audio recording devices they had back then. I listened to it, and I'd kill for a copy of that show! Ray's voice was pretty shot from screaming the night before (at the show, not at Carla!), so I announced the ticket numbers for him when it came time to do the raffle. Lots of good stuff was given away that day. Shirts, CD's, autographed photos, etc. And, the owner of Tobasco's even threw in a few shirts form the bar and a free bottle of Reposado CWT! How cool is that? They also hosted an "air guitar" contest, complete with inflatable guitars. I did mine to "One Way To Rock" from VH's "Live: Right Here, Right Now". Red Rocker music blared forth through the speakers all day. It was a beautiful day at the beach.
We finally caught a ride back to the hotel, where Loni and Phyllis decided to cool it in the pool for a while. I believe Paula was there, as was Big Kenny and a few other REDheads that I never got to know. Paula was a regular fixture at that pool. She's also a very funny person with a warped sense of humor. There was some female who was falling down, sloppy drunk one night in the lobby. Paula took one look at her and said, "Get her, Vince!". Yeah! As if! I went back to the room to shower off and get ready for the show that night. Loni and I went out to eat, then made it back in plenty of time for the show. I copped a spot second in line with some guy from NY named "Ira". Very nice guy. Talked about all sorts of stuff. Then, by about 7 pm, there was a considerable line of people waiting for the doors to open when this woman and about a dozen people walked up to the head of the line, where we were, and tried to get in before ALL of us. Since KSHE was broadcasting from the club that night, these were apparently contest winners, from what we gathered, and this woman was someone trying very hard to use her credentials to push her way past everyone with the contest winners. Well, she didn't try very hard because after explaining how we had all been waiting for a few hours to get in, and paid our dues the night before to get our tickets by camping outside the club, one of Sam's security guys politely, then firmly, told her to "Please leave! Now!" She finally got the hint, and had to come back to the dozen or so peple with her tail tucked between her legs telling them they wouldn't be allowed to enter until we (all of us standing in line) entered first. So, they would have to go get a bite to eat somewhere until that happened. We all got a good chuckle out of that one. I'm telling everyone right now, Sammy's security people REALLY looks out for the fans first. It was amazing.
The show started early that night, around 9:20 pm. I later heard that the people who had late dinner reservations were refunded the price of dinner by Dustin, who handles the restaurant, because the show started earlier than expected. He didn't have to do that, but he did and that was very cool of him. Sammy has really surrounded himself with top-notch people. This night's performance was totally off the hook! In my opinion, it was THE best night of the 4 Sammy performed, Gusanos included. Stevie Salas came out and rocked the hosue with Sammy and Mike. They tore it up on "Rock The Nation" and "Won't Get Fooled Again". I had a great spot by the stage, except for the one girl that kept trying to push her way past me to "just get 1 picture, then I'll move. I promise!" Yeah...where have I heard that before? Sorry, honey, but as someone that works concert security, that line gets used more than any other I've ever heard. It also didn't matter to her that *I* couldn't move because there was a woman in a wheelchair to my immediate right, making it impossible for her to get in for her picture. I told her no, and so did this woman's boyfriend. This inconsiderate bitch still didn't care. After about the 10th time of "NO!!!!!!" she yelled "Dick!!!!" at me, and I thanked her. She finally left. I met some more fellow REDheads behind me that night as well, Christa, Andrea, Chris and Stephanie. Steph kindly inflicted severe pain on me as she slapped my sunburned right shoulder after I successfully tossed Mona her glow necklace. And Andrea hugged me until my neck snapped when I also successfully passed her framed autographed photo to Sammy for him to sign. Thanks, Andrea. I'm just now starting to be able to turn my head sideways without any pain. Thank your lucky stars you're cute otherwise I'd be pissed.
Like I said, this was the best show out of the 4 the entire time I was there. We left after the show was over, and, because we had managed to score dinner reservations from a fellow REDhead we didn't have to worry about waiting in line for tickets for the show on 10/13. We went out to the parking lot, mingled around a bit, and since I had about 15 minutes left on my videotape back at the hotel, I used the rest at the club just walking around the parking lot and the club talking with people. Unexpectedly ran into Mona inside the Cantina, who said "What are ya doin', dude?!?" when I turned around and saw her. I heard later that she wasn't feeling too well (probably another victim of the Cabo Crud), so that would explain her mood that night. Mona was the one member of the band that made herself the most accessible. It seems like everytime we were at the club, whether for a gig, just stopping in at the Waboutique, or meeting someone at the bar, she was always there and always had a smile for everyone. Total sweetheart.
Went back to the hotel, cranked the A/C to "arctic", and caught some much-needed sleep.
10/12 (The Booze Cruise) and 10/13 to follow....."Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Vince, why don't you put all these stories in one thread. It would keep it together a whole lot better with every new one bumping the thread back to the top for anyone who didn't catch the previous ones.

The Cabo Wabo Cantina belongs to Sammy Hagar. Sammy was once a part of VH.
There's plenty of posts here that, though they have nothing to do with Van Halen, they do contain people in the posts who used to be members of Van Halen.
If it was that big of a deal, this being Part 4, I'm sure Brett or Glenn (one of the mods in this room) would've emailed me already. Nobody else seems to mind, and, from the responses I've seen publicly and read privately, they enjoy reading them.
It's very simple. If you don't want to be bothered with it, don't read it.

Also, I thought I might use up a little less bandwidth rather than make one huge post, like I've seen others do in the past.
Sorry 'bout that, dude.
Since I have 10/12 and 10/13 left, I'll probably tie those up together.

Sammy is pretty VH related don't you think? Much more so than any of those people you listed above?
Now give Eddymon a hug and let's move on!
