New Singer.......A Chick??

Okay folks, I'm proposing this topic because I was thinking about this the other day and I got curious. What If the new lead singer hired by VH (#4) was a CHICK?? It's been known that Eddie considered both Sass Jordan and Patty Smyth as possiblities before Sammy came into the picture. I would preferably like to keep it "male" only, as I'm sure most of you would. But, what if Eddie said, "Hey, Couldn't get Dave or Sammy, but, I picked a 4th singer who's really good, and it's a woman." It might be cool if it were someone like Chrissie Hynde or something. Who Knows, it might be lame with a woman. I would guess so. Just curious, and wondering what you all had to say about it, especially any ladies in this forum besides me. Any thoughts??

I really don't want to see VH without Sam first or Dave second. But if the did hire a female singer it would have to be Joan Jett.

This may sound stupid, but I have always thought that Sheryl Crow would sound good singing a lot of (not all) the already written Van Halen tunes, and I think she would go good with the band for anythig new hat could be written more for her styles. Just a thought.

funny thought..obviously the majority of the back catalogue would become obsolete. However, the idea of eddie playing guitar behind sheryl crow is pretty interesting to say the least. It wouldn't be VH as such but eddie's guitar paying has become more textured as the years have gone by and the girl can certainly sing......would also give eddie the chance to show what he's really made of on the piano. I thought Sammy was Van Halen's female singer... As one poster once phrased it here, he looks like Shirley Temple in a clowns outfit.

Seriously though, I can't imagine hearing Running With The Devil, or Mean Street sung with the balls it deserves to be sung with by a female. However, I think a female could very easily sing Dreams, or When It's Love. Sammy's catalogue doesn't ooze with the same 200 proof testosterone that Dave's catalogue does. Which is also why Gary sung Sammy's stuff so well.

I will say that a woman in the next Van Halen Got Milk advertisement would look hotter with white stuff smeared across her lips than what Eddie and Alex did.

It's not so far fetched that Ed would hire a woman. If he's serious about "starting from scratch", that would be one way to go.

As for who this woman could be, Joan Jett, and Sheryl Crow were already mentioned, and good choices. Sass Jordan (who was considered between Sam and Gary) is another good pick, as would be Alanyss Morisette.

i agree with the earlier suggestions, although morisette isn't one that came to mind. i'm not a big fan of hers, but if it brought glen ballard back into the fold, that'd be a bonus after MWM and CGTSNM.

gary did a better job live on the roth tunes than sammy. there's a couple women who could belt them out too - amy ray (indigo girls) has a great, great rock voice and digs heavier stuff. it'd be kind of strange to see her fronting VH 'tho, in this alerternate universe we're talking about

eddie's said he'd be fine with it, and i'm for anything that means more music. but i think he'd get crucified by the dave or grave crowd, just like when gary joined.

Years ago, I bought some live shots of Ed jamming with Patty Smythe and Scandal, I think right after Dave left the band. Ed has his hair all cut off. Anyway, I sent the originals to an address I found for Michael Anthony for him to give to Ed, but from what I know, Mike never got them. Anyway, I recently met a concert photographer in Oklahoma, and he showed me some of his work, and he was the same guy who took those pics at the Scandal show. He said Ed played at 3 Scandal shows, supposedly Vegas, Dallas, and Atlanta, if I remember right. Anyway, I left the shot in my buddies car, but I'll have him email it to me and then I'll email it to DiamondD and let him post it for me, as I don't really know the picture posting ropes so well. There was another shot I bought from the guy, of Ed sitting down on stage with VH, laying back, feeling no pain, and I'll post it too. Anyway, my point is to say I'll give you cats a glimpse of Ed jamming with Mrs. McEnroe as soon as I can.

Bif Naked...there's an interesting possibility...she has a tough growl to her voice...and I'm sure she could handle the back catalog...

Listen to her song entitled "Tango Shoes"...it would be a close representation of what she would/could sound like in Van Halen.

I think she would be better than Sass Jordan.

Also bringing in a woman would be a great publicity stunt to get the ball rolling again...since they have been out of the likelight for so long.

People should remember that the last truly great record Van Halen did was FUCK in 1993...that is 10 Years ago, and the key to their return, regardless of who the singer is, is to have a great "musical" record...they need an album of great "songs" before they worry about the particulars of who the vocalist is.
