I truly hope that the Sam and Dave tour materializes. After eating crap for a long time, us fans deserve some good news.

Sam and Dave will undoubtedly challenge each other. Each will want to outperform the other. For the fans, this will be a bonanza.

Sam will force Dave to:
(1) play some solo stuff.
Since leaving VH, Sammy has gone to great lengths to show his success outside of the band. Dave will want to show that he's done some good stuff on his own, too.
(2) get a real guitar player.
It would be embarassing for Dave to tour with the guy who pretended to be Ed in a VH tribute band. It's nothing personal against Bart Walsh - who I understand from all accounts is a real, stand-up guy. BUT, "perception is reality" and touring with a tribute band player is perceived as a bit sad.
(3) be coherent.
I love Dave. But he is getting a little crazy. His current musical (and I use the term loosely) venture is as organized as the proverbial "fart in a spaceship." Sammy is more focused and I think Dave will have to be a bit sharper, so that he is not simply perceived as a lunatic.

Dave will force Sammy to:
(1) show up every night.
I saw a couple of VH shows with Sammy (never saw Dave with VH) where Sammy appeared to be going through the motions. Dave, like it or not, shows up for work EVERY NIGHT. Sammy won't be able to take a play off with Dave's high energy show barrelling down the road.
(2) have his band sharpen up on the VH.
I saw Sammy on the MTM and it was clear that he did not want his band compared to VH, so they reworked all the VH tunes a bit. I think that Vic was contractually prohibited from finger-tapping at all. Assuming that Dave tours with Bart, his VH material will be tight. Sammy will not be able to coast by on watered down VH.
(3) pass the buffet table.
'Nuff said.

You made some good points here. What I want to see is Dave and Sammy doing a VH tune TOGETHER. The ones that I can think of them doing would be 'Finish What Ya Started' and 'Panama'. This way, they both get to sing something they didn't help create. Realistically, I see them doing 'You Really Got Me' and maybe 'Dancing In The Street' since their both covers.

At this point, who really knows??

If Sam attempts to sing Panama on a tour with Dave, he will definitely have to leave out all the bullshit about "Last night, I was thinking about tonight when I should have been thinking about tonight and tommorrow, fuck tomorrow and if that ain't a bunch of bullshit I don't know what is..".

In any event, he should never be allowed to sing "Unchained" again. Damn that was a travesty

I don't agree with this. With them both on the same stage, on the same night, Dave is going to want to appear as the big dog. The way to do that is to be the one to get the most audience response, and Dave isn't going to get that by bringing out half a dozen songs that fans either haven't heard in ten years, or haven't heard at all. Not at the expense of VH songs he KNOWS are recognizable to a large cross section of rock fans.

This audience isn't going to be comprised of a lot of fans of DLR's solo work; Dave's diminishing record sales would suggest there aren't many (relatively speaking of course) fans of his solo work to start with. So given that, and given the obvious desire to out-duel Sammy, I don't see this as the time when DLR brings out the solo material.

I do see your point though, I think it SHOULD be seen by Dave as a great chance to prove that he made some great music after he left VH. But I doubt we'll see any more than the standard two solo songs.

I think they'll jam non-VH classic rock or rock'n'roll/soul type songs.

But I agree with Raldo that YRGM is the most likely VH song since it's a cover and they both sang it with VH. Dancing in the Streets seems unlikely IMO.

I think if they do get up on stage together, they'll do something completely neutral - possibly a zep tune or something of that ilk,

Seeing they both performed zep covers with VH, it would be some common ground.

Since pissing off the Lying Dutchmen would seem to be a motive for the tour, maybe the R&B song they should sing together is "Would You Do It For Free", from Hagar's Marching to Mars album.

But could Mikey handle the funky Bootsy Collins bassline. I know Billy Sheehan could. Maybe it's time the EEAS band reconvened after all?

Sure would be nice to get some confirmation as to whether any of this will actually take place....

Nah. If they really want to piss Ed off, they can invite different audience members to come on stage and sing "How Many Say I."

Only problem with that is that they would piss off the audience.

The more I think about this the more I hope it happens. If Ed and Al just want to stay out of the spotlight fine but it's great to see Dave, Sam and Mike rockin the house down.

At this point there's only 2 VH songs(Excluding VDIII) that I haven't heard live, that I would like to hear: "Crossing Over" and "Me Wise Magic", besides those everything else is just a bonus!
