I was cleaning out and going thru some of my old vhs tapes and came across a boot of Ed and Val . I'm sure most of you have seen it. The one where Eddie and Val are at the HRC donating one of Eds personal Kramers. Watching the two of them really made me smile and laugh . Martha Quinn was interviewing them. Some pretty funny shit! Eddie just seemed so down to earth then and easy to relate to.
After the HRC interview ended I discovered I had taped the Howard Stern interview with VH circa 1998. Anyway watching these two vids back to back is like a night and day transition. The glow in Eds eyes is gone . Even as far back as the 1996 MTV interview with him and Alex talking about the Hagar/Roth split. He just doesnt appear to have a love for life anymore.

I too have that HRC interview with Ed and Val. Your right. They both seem so happy an full of life. Ed's lived a hard life. It's understandable that the sparkle is gone. I hope he finds hapiness again.
(Just wait till Spirit see's this... Boy are you in trouble!) VHWalkathon - Project 316

EVH: The music is first and foremost. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it will always be. Because without the music, what is there? Nothing. There's nothing without the music. You can't even cop an attitude without the music (laughs).

At least Eddie said at NAMM that he was happy and that he was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
It's just a matter of time until we see him happy and jamming.
Singer Loss(Hagar)+Hip replacement+Singer Loss (Cherone)+Cancer+"Divorce"(if it happens)=NOT AN EASY LIFE.
Now Eddie is Cancer Free, he needs to work his house things first, then the music will come.
I really hope Eddie and Sammy could be friends again, they made some great albums.
I'LL WAIT."I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone
"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth
WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

Yeah my favorite albums are all those with Dave
Hope that Eddie will pick up is guitar and do you show .. EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If there’s something I can’t deal with, I can just spend hours playing. It’s a God-given gift – I certainly don’t know where the ideas come from. They’re obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it.
So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?

I've had some tough times in my life too, and when I look back at pictures of those times, the sparkle is nowhere to be found in my eyes.
But it is amazing how resilient we human beings are. Not only have I overcome those problems, but I've went on to have an awesome career that has literally touched millions of people across the country and world wide. And if I can do it, I'm sure anyone, most particularly someone with so much to offer like Eddie Van Halen can do it too.
I bet a lot of us in here have stories of overcoming lots of obstacles that once seemed insurmountable. I'm sure some of us even have faced death a time or two as well.
It's easy to believe in someone when they are standing on top of the world. And it's naturally harder to believe in folks when they are down- when the odds seem so stacked against them.
But just remember all of the things you have overcome in your life journey. Were their people betting against you? Even family members and friends- the very people who should have believed in you most?
Some folks are afraid to let themselves believe in others because they don't want to feel let down, or possibly look foolish for dreaming that the long shot will pay off.
It doesn't matter to me if I look foolish, or naive, or if I'm let down in the future. Eddie (and all of you) are worth the emotional investment.
The power of the human spirit is extraordinary.Buttocks and crotches and nipples with wings, these are a few of my favorite things!

You guys forget one thing.
In 1987 Ed's old man Jan Van Halen passed away. That was a major shock for Ed, he was so close to his dad.
I think that pictures after that time show a different Ed. Then he had Wolfie, but a few years later Ed Leffler died, and it seemed to have a profound effect on the bros, Leffler was like their second dad.
But things can turn around.
I have only one example to give: Neil Peart.
Ed hasn't lived through half of what Neil has gone through. If Neil could come back and rock 60 000 people in Rio's Maracana stadium last fall, then Ed can be back too.
There is hope.Little Dreamer

Neil's only child Nancy died in a car crash when she was 18 years old, in 1997. Six months later his wife died of cancer. Neil didn't pick up a drum stick for several years. He travelled through America on a bike, looking for a reason to live. This is explained in his new and excellent book called "The Ghost Rider". He then met his new wife, resettled in America and is back rocking with Rush. It's a great story about the resilience of the human spirit, and tells a lot about Neil's strength.

Unfortunately, life isn't always fun and games. After all that he has been thru, I'm just glad that he is 'alive and kickin'.
