    This was posted over at the Dream Theater forums. You simply won't believe it.

    Re: Will DT regret 6DOIT like they did FII?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Only time will tell, I still think FII is great album, but a alot of bands always look back at stuff they did in the past and regret some things they did. eg. Metallica on the Justice Album, and Eddie Van Halen and most of his stuff.

    They might regret spending only such a short amount of time on the new album, we'll have to see.

    FYI: For the non Dream Theater fans among us, 6doit = Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (Latest Album).
    FII = Falling Into Infinity

    WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

    I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

    Remove your left hand from the keyboard, your right hand from the crack pipe, and back away from the computer slowly...

    Dream Theater has no soul?????

    Maybe you should spend 1 hour listening to Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory from start to finish.

    REALLY LISTEN TO IT! Just because it isn't obvious, doesn't mean that it isn't there. BELIEVE me, it is!

    P.S. - I LOVE Eddie's playing (In fact, he's my all time favorite), but John Petrucci would mop the floor with him technically. Eddie has his own style, his own sound, and certainly does have great tone and a lot of soulfulness in his playing, but JP is a MUCH better all around guitarist IMHO. Even though he is truly a better guitarist, Eddie is still #1 in my book for all the originality he has and what he did for Rock-n-Roll back in the seventies. Petrucci comes in at a CLOSE second.

    Uh-huh, and Trey Anastasio would run circles around both of them.

    I think Eddie has said in the past he has regrets about the first 5 albums because he wasn't forceful enough with Dave to do what he thought should be done. He was mad he went with Dave's vision and not his own. He also was unhappy they didn't spend enough time on the recording process, it was quick to get them back out on the road making money.

    I mean no offense, just my opinion. Metropolis is the only DT disc I own. Yes it is technically outstanding, yes, they are amazing musicians, but how much soul is there in a penatonic scale played at light speed.

    I stand by my original opinion, DT has no soul.

    Flame away, see if I care...

    ....I agree. I have a couple of their albums, saw then twice (as warmup), they're very technically talented but I'd rather listen to paint dry.
