Certainly the most famous Van Halen song. Everybody around me knows this great song and I've got an extended version.
Eddie said in an interview that it's the first song he wrote in the 5150 studio. He has got some problems with David Lee Roth who doesn't want that he played synthetiser."The world is yours" (SCARFACE)

Jump is a great song! I never get sick of it!
David Lee Roth used a lot of keyboards in his solo albums, especially on Skyscraper. So he obviously changed his mind about them when Jump was a huge hit for =VH=. Right Now you're reading my post!
I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

That was the first Van Halen song (well actually 1984 was) that I ever heard. When I heard this song, and the rest of the album, I was pratcially on top of the world for the rest of the week!

This was the song that got me into Van Halen when I was at school
I remember some kid bringing in 1984 and playing it in the classroom.
"1984" started then "Jump" and I was blown away.
I couldn't get a copy of the album quickly enough...And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both thats intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion. - David Lee Roth

I think Jump is going to be the song that Van Halen is always going to be associated by. I can't imagine the world without Jump. I mean what song better to burst out singing during an exam at school? You all know you've had that kinda thing happen to you before. You zone out and start singing....you might as well JUMP! oops sorry., lost my train of thought :-d

I think Dave simply recognized Ed as the king of 10 fingers and 6 strings. If you all remember correctly, there were a lot of bands in the early 80s that were using synthesizers and Dave didn't want to have a watered down Van Halen. It turned out that Ed was able to use them very very well. Power synthesizers is a good phrase for it I guess. Jump will be one of my favorites!

Since october, I'm taking the train every day for going to the University, and during the journey, with my CD plyer, I'm only listening to the Best Of Volume 1. When it's the 7th song, JUMP, it's a great remedy against the ennoy and the lonelyness.
It's a so cool and funny song. I'm always thinking that it's the most famous Van Halen song."The world is yours" (SCARFACE)

I hated Jump when it was released. I liked the hardcore Van Halen, not the wussy watered down Van Halen that I believed Jump represented.
Strangely enough, over time I have come to enjoy the song quite a bit. I don't think it ranks anywhere near Running With The Devil, Aint Talkin Bout Love, Beautiful Girls, So This Is Love, Me Wise Magic, or many many many other VH tunes, but it certainly has it's charm.
Why Jump was more popular than Hot For Teacher will forever be a mystery to me.Buttocks and crotches and nipples with wings, these are a few of my favorite things!

I have no such questions about Apolitical Blues. It's a I IV V progression, it's not a walking bass line, etc. It's a song that wouldn't be hard to play for anyone who learned Since I've Been Loving...
