Hey all. I was surfing aroung just looking for info on the Axis and came across this... a japaneese Axis. Has anyone heard about these ? seen one ? played one ?.
Take a look at the link, It looks similar to the EVH with the pup switch up front instead of under the volume know.

I've only seen one before. They have styles of guitars in Japan that we don't see here in North America.
The that I saw was brought back by a friend who did some touring in Japan a while ago.
It's an axis that's basically built like an EVH.
It is made by EBMM, and he didn't pay anywhere near 1200. for it. Actually, about half of that.

The guitar looks cool, but whats it sound like? I picked one up from a Korean manufacturer called Career. I got it through a German dealer. I salpped a real Floyd in it, kept the standard pickups and I was in business! The guitar rocks! Any more info on how to get the Japanese version?

Actually it sounds pretty good. It is an EBMM guitar, and the japanese make pretty good guitars.
The neck is bare wood, the tuners are German Schallers, and the bridge is a real MM bridge.
The neck fits tightly and there's no slippage.
I don't know if they're Dimarzio p/u's but for what they're asking I have to assume they would be. The one I tried felt like an EVH and played really fast. The frets are exactly the same size as well.
From what I could see it's basically an evh, but I guess the body wood's lower quality, and there's no signature on the headstock.
The neck on the one I tried was a nice peice of bird's eye maple.

Wow Tribb, I didn't know that EBMM made a guitar overseas.
Now see, that looks like one fine guitar. Even though it's made in Japan, you can not visibly tell any differences in the hardware, fit or finish. The only difference I could see from the pictures is the lack of a name on the headstock(a good move on the part of EBMM).

Now EBMM isn't even marketing this guitar in the U.S. They are not trying to replicate a signature model guitar to exact specifications, but they still used all the same hardware, and it seems that they didn't skimp on craftsmanship.

This is what I would have expected a Wolfgang EX to be like. Instead, we got a overpriced piece of inferior crap. Peavey should take a lesson from this and get their act together if they are going to continue using the Wolfgang name on an overseas guitar.

I would also have to say that anyone buying a "EBMM/EVH" over the net should be exceptionally careful since this guitar does exist. Check all your serial numbers with Ernie Ball before you buy it. It would not be very hard to slap Eddies signature on the front of it and call it an EVH.
There is literally no way to tell the difference from the pictures.

Just goes to show that even in an overseas line of guitars, Ernie Ball is all about quality. (Sorry to any Peavy-heads out there)

Japan Axis

Dave
I just talked to a friend of mine who lives in Japan, he says they are all over the place there.
there is one on ebay (Japan) for $720 if my math is correct (and that's a longshot)and he's getting a solid price and another review of it for me.

Ok so how far would one be set back to buy one of those in blue and have it shipped to lets say Alabama?

I've got to play some of the current Japanese Fenders and Gibson's(Orville), and they are worlds better than their korean and mexican counterparts. If I could get a blue Japanese Axis for under a grand shipped to me that would unbelievable!

I'd like to read the reviews too. Going by the one I was able to try, I'd have no problem whatsoever using one in a live situation.
I don't think they'll be marketed here though because they're too close to the original.
It would be extremely easy to counterfeit one of these for the original.
Just look at the tops.
Nice pictures Rol.

Hi,

A year ago I had shipped 2 guitars to Japan and one to China and I'll be damned if I can't find the shipping reciepts for either, my recollection was around $100 and I went to the USPS calculator and I was correct, $86.25 USPS Global Express Mail (EMS)to Japan but then add $1 to every $100 you want it insured for and yes you want insurance don't even think about risking it

Now for those who don't know this, if you were to contact a business in Japan and buy that guitar and they ship it to you, there will be an extra import tax you will have to pay, I paid a $50 import tax for a guitar I bought over the net from Canada .
So the moral of my story is to buy from a private party, yes I know someone there but I'm not going to volunteer him to get them for anyone unless I ask but first the conditions are.

#1 you are serious, no jerking me around.
me and my freind have a mutual net freindship that's lasted for years and I'm not gonna ruin it because of some goofball playing games.

#2 all Money in a M.O up front (see #1)

sorry if I sound harsh here but if any of you have ever done business on the net you know where I'm coming from

if anyone is interested let me know and I'll see what I can do, but there are no promises the guy may say no and that's that, if he agrees to purchase these see #1 & #2 and lastly he is trust worthy I have done dealt with him many times.

yes it would and I believe it's already been done, there was rumor that EB made a few of them without the sig right after EVH got booted.
You guys with the EB contacts ask them about that,
there was one on ebay about a year ago without the logo, I was all over it but got cold feet and didn't get in touch with EB before the auction ended, also an EVH sig could very easily be made at your local Kinkos on clear stickback and you know somone will try it.

I'm now seriously considering a blue Japanese Axis, but I'll e-mail you about it when I have the money ready and there will be no hold ups on my end. But until you can expect the usual hairbrain gutiar idea e-mails!

Larry I apologize, I was not reffering that directly to you and upon reading my post it sure looks like I was, it was meant as an offer to anyone who might want one and I just laid out some of my ground rules.
I meant no offence to anyone, but if anuone is interested I'll look into seeing if I can get one,
I know I'll be getting one myself here in the near future.

Hey man I wouldn't be offended even if the post was aimed at me , I know how nerve racking internet deals are, and you would be putting yourself in a tight position if someone flaked on you. I think its cool as ice that you make the offer to be a middle man in a situation like that to save a fellow EVH head a few bucks. And like I said when I'm out of this little mini debt I'm in, I'll be looking for a little help getting a blue one shipped to LA(lower Alabama )!!!
