....I'M SORRY i had to bring this topic back from the dead ,i cant sleep at night...and you know what, i'm gonna say it..MIKE IS HALF THE MAGIC IN THE VAN HALEN SOUND.....DAMN I FEEL ALOT BETTER ! MIKE plays 4 the song ,i dont need too hear sombody like " billy sheen " to compete with ED's guitar conversation, when the boys hired mike they knew what they were doing , the best damn background vocals, great showman , great bass lines , great human-being .

I've played with a number of bass players in the past and I'll tell you what, I would've been thrilled to tears to have found one like Mike Anthony.

Whether Michael Anthony is the best bass player or not, his harmonies will always be a neccessary component of the Van HALEN sound.

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?

No doubt VAn Halen is an extraordinarily talented band. While much of the credit goes to Eddie, Alex and the various frontman, Mike is often overlooked for his contributions. Mike, I think, plays (no pun intended) a pivitol role in Van Halen's success. If Van Halen were to loose Brother Mikey, I think I would loose a substantial amount of interest in the band.

the only damn thing is i wish they would take away the "S T E R O I D S " off of AL'S drums, and get some of that AL & MIKE magic again , them 2 together are lethal.

Mikey's a lot better bass player then a lot of people give him credit for!
Ed would not sould like Ed without Mike.
I think some people figure a good bass player is someone like billy or stu and they are, but guys like that have no place in vh.
Mikey is solid as a rock and he plays smart lines
I'd pick Mike over a billy or stu for rock anyday

Homeunit, you hit the nail on the head! I happen to be a big fan of Sheehan, but I don't think he would fit in with VH. I've heard that Al was opposed to bringing in Sheehan. Him and Mike can really lock in and give Ed a solid foundation to play over.
If you've seen VH live, you know that Mike is certainly capable of cutting loose and throwing a few extra licks into the songs, and many of his bass parts ain't easy to play! (Examples: the riff he plays during the guitar solo in "Amsterdam" and the riff him and Ed double up on before the guitar break & solo in "Without You".)
