From vhnd.com :
Van Halen Split With Warner Bros. Records
January 24, 2002 - Rumours have been flying all day on the Internet that Van Halen have split with their label, Warner Bros. Records.
I've just received confirmation from Brad Starks, webmaster of the official Van Halen site, that this is indeed true and that it actually happened one month ago.
The band decided against posting the information on their web site because they didn't think it was newsworthy. Starks added that Warner Bros. did not drop Van Halen.
This is obviously big news, and could explain such recent events as "E.L.V.H., Inc." (Edward Van Halen's private company?) re-registering the trademark "VAN HALEN" on December 4, 2001. The Trademark Electronic Search System gives the following details under the "goods and services" provided by the trademark "Van Halen":
IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Entertainment services, namely live and recorded musical performances and appearances by a vocal and instrumental group; fan club services; providing a website featuring-- reviews; articles; interviews; information; music videos; music charts; personal biographies; diaries; information on music instruments; tour dates; games; trivia; access to memorabilia; photographs, video clips, audio clips, downloadable software, namely, screensavers, browser skins, desktop wallpaper, and desktop icons, and other multi-media materials, all available via a global computer network. FIRST USE: 19740909. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19780303
This may be good news for fans starved of older material. I can only speculate on the terms of the split, but we may see Warner Bros. put out a box set of unreleased material. We can only hope!
-------------------------------------------------
It figures that Brad would think that this is NOT newsworthy!! Moron!!

HERE IS BRAD IN HIS OWN WORDS AS HE E-MAILED GRANT:
"Yes, VH and WB have parted company. In actuality, this is old news
because the event took place one month ago. The band decided against
posting the info because they didn't feel it was very newsworthy.
Bands change labels all the time so this isn't really anything
earth-shattering. Don't worry though, this is a good thing.
Feel free to post this to whatever lists. I'm not at my computer
and am checking my email remotely.
Please note that WB did not drop Van Halen.""The last singer was a singer, I am THE singer" - DLR

It might be very good news. If it frees up old material and allows for recording to recommence(a new album on a private label supported by a new tour??hmmm? ) then I'm psyched. At least all the classic albums have been remastered by WB...

I haven't posted on the subject, but I believe this is great news...Maybe certain "legal issues" will now be resolved

How can this NOT be newsworthy to the fans??? Stupid statements like that really piss me off. I love this band's music but their P.R. is terrible!

Achievements:
have never bad mouthed Brad.... but all good things must come to an end... only the world biggest idiot would think this is not huge news.
In the music business these days, maybe not. In the realm of VH, it is huge. It has been there label from day one.
I hope we get something from WB out of the deal, I personally think this is the only good that can possibly come from this. To not want to be with a major label like WB gives me this bad feeling that VH once again has no clue what is good for them. If it is a money issue, I think a smaller label will be the final nail in the coffin for VH.
regardless, there has to be an underlying reason, and to VH fans that is big news, good or bad.
It has been asked many times before, but why does VH waste there time with an official web site?
my rant for the year
for the mods that occasionally ask, My daughter
and I are doing great... keep up the great work.

Wow! Talk about shocking! I am surprised this wasn't leaked out over the past month. Makes you wonder what exactly is "newsworthy" to Van Halen. Maybe they had to keep quiet all this time and maybe they will now be able to give us some answers. Yeah right...this is the band who says no news is good news...maybe if we are lucky they will tell us who the new singer is before the new album hits the stores
Maybe we can finally get some unreleased material from VH too, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Ed & Al would probably get the lawyers involved with that too
Always one more,
You're never satisfied.
Never one for all with you,
It's only one for me

Maybe they were trying to wait until they announced the new cd before they said which label it will be on.

Just goes to show that all the closed-minded people who think they know it all, that think something big can't happen without us finding outthe moment it goes down, are just plain full of shit. If Dave is involved, and I think he is, given the minimal amount of real info he's put out with anything concrete to it,then they are flying under the radar. Denying the hell out of everything and not saying shit about anything else. If this went down without us knowing, there's no doubt they could be very close to having something finished just in time to release it and tour to support it during the good ol' summertime!
Whatever the case, if it leads to new VH music, it is a good thing. I never bought any of my VH shit because of the cool WB logo down in the corner. I'm sure we can buck up for a support group for the pussies who are in a funk over this.John 3:16, Can You Dig It?
People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?
You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?
And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!
We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?
