Gary Garber interviewed Eddie at the golf tournament and Howard played it today. He basically asked questions about Hagar/Roth, cancer ect. Eddie did not really answer anything. He would give his answers back in form of questions. It was very short, Eddie sounded the same. He actually flustered Gary w/ his answers. Anyone on the west coast might want to tune in and you might get it.

That was Ed???

I thought it was Raymond Babbitt. I half-expected Ed to say that "Val lets him drive slowly on the driveway sometimes."

It's good to know that a chain smoker can probably count a box of matches really quickly.

Thanks Socks. Does anyone know what time this aired in the show? There's about 45 minutes left in the L.A. broadcast of the Stern show.

Here's what I posted in the closed thread, "Report from the Golf Tournament:"

Also, there was a guy from The Howard Stern Show who interviewed Ed. At first, I was far away, so I didn't hear the first few questions. As I walked to get closer, he asked Ed a question about Rosie O'Donnell. Then he asked Ed if he ever did a black chick. The guy then apologized to Ed, saying that they weren't his questions. Ed patted the guy on the back and said, "tell Howard I said 'Hi.'"

Gary Garver Interviews Eddie Van Halen. 5/23/02. 7:35am
Howard had tape of his L.A. reporter, Gary Garver, interviewing Eddie Van Halen. Eddie didn't answer any of the questions Gary had for him though. He would just answer a question with the same question for Gary. Gary ended up answering his own questions while Eddie just acted like a prick. Eddie did say that he's gotten a clean bill of health and has no more cancer. Other than that we learned nothing from him.

That was from www.marksfriggin.com

Didn't somebody who went to the tournament say they witnessed this particular interview and that Eddie told Gary Garver to tell Howard "hi"?

The guy wasn't surprised at Ed's answers. He was just doing his job, asking the questions that he was told to ask.

I missed the "Tyson/Lewis fight" question, but I don't think so. This guy just showed-up at the 16th tee with a microphone. I didn't see him before the 16th tee and he didn't stick around.

If I were EVH I'd probably appreciate a question like this from left field. Imagine how many times he's been asked "so, what's up with Van Halen", or "how do you do that high tapping stuff on the guitar".

Questions like that give him a good opportunity to show he's a normal guy.

I think Tyson will win BTW.

Did anybody ask Eddie anything interesting like what he's listening to nowadays? I'd be curious to know the answer to that one.

</font>
Good point, Grant; but, that's just it, he's not a normal guy. And, I don't mean that in a bad way.

I think he is listening to his own music.....Minus a singer...maybe.!! That is one thing I noticed about Eddie. He seems to answer all questions with another question!

This is my first time posting on this site, but after listening to the Stern Show interview today, I wanted to comment.
Everybody knows that Gary Garver has to stick to the schtick, but the point is, EVH would have answered serious questions in the same way.

Enough with...

"Is Mike still in the band?"
...I'm easy; I'll jam with anybody.
"Who's the new lead singer?"
...we've got lot's of lead singers.
"When are we gonna hear some new music?"
...in God's time. (presumably before the 2nd coming of Christ).

Sketchy answers like that are annoying to those of us who've supported the band for years. I don't understand why we can't get something like..
"Hey look, I've just recovered from a potentially life threatening illness. Now, I'm trying to focus on the music. Truth is, we're not firm on a lead singer, and we don't have a record deal. It's probably gonna be a year or two before you hear anything new. But hang in there, it'll be cool when it reaches you."

I could live with that.
