HA!!...since I've got yuor attention let's examine the facts.
Fact number 1.Eddie and Al hate this album.
Proof:Failure to include any tracks on the best of cd and reluctance to play any of the songs on the '98 "Resurrecting old songs" tour.
Fact number 2:At the time of making this album the band was tired and burnt out and perhaps the speed with which this album was concocted reflected that.
BUT...
You have got to admit this album is still more fun to listen to than "3" and it does contain two of what I consider the best songs and instrumentals they have ever recorded.
Thus being:"Little Guitars"plus intro and
"cathedral"/"Secrets".
Plus the're sense of humour and sheer ease and playing anyone else's songs is what makes them so legendary in the first place..
love, pkjr

Diver Down was my least favorite cd until 3 came out . DD has some good moments like Cathedral , Secrets , Little Guitars ( Intro and song ). The remastered version sounds better as well .

DD was always one of my least favorite albums (although it has some of my favorite individual songs), but...it's the one I've been listening A LOT to lately...along with YFLM.

Diver Down actually isn't that bad of an album. Sure, it was rushed, so they used a bunch of cover songs, but there are some great originals on: Hang 'em High, Cathedral, Secrets, Little Guitars (intro and song), and The Full Bug.

Achievements:
Diver Down is definitely the weakest of the Dave era albums, but it's still cool. And its sound really leaves alot to be desired; I find it to be very thin sounding. It probably benefitted from remastering more than any of the others.
Songwise though, it's great, and has some of the best material they ever did; particularily Secrets, Little Guitars and The Full Bug. Cathedral is a great instrumental, as is Intruder. Even the cover songs are good, though I'm not all that fond of Where Have All the Good Times Gone. People criticize Dancing in the Streets, but I think WHATGTG is far weaker.
Diver Down really should have been represented on the Best of album.

Awards:
For my money the main problem with DD is it just seemed rushed. Like they wanted to bang something out quickly and hit the road. AN extra month or 2 in the studio would have changed it totally
That said, the origonals kick ass on this album. The full bug is one of their best tunes ever IMHO. Its a good fun album, but probably doesnt find its way on my CD player as much as others do..

For the first comment, I agree. But it was good live though. As for the second comment: EXACTLY! I don't know why everyone hates DITS. I listened to a lot in the past, but NEVER listened to Secrets. I think Secrets is weak and so is WHATGTG. But what do I know?

For me, Where Have All the Good Times Gone was terrible live. Granted, I've only heard a couple of versions, but it's the one song on which Dave's scat singing and live timing just didn't work. Whereas I normally like Dave's playing with the words and phrasing, in the case of WHATGTG it just ended up sounding poorly rehearsed.
Just my opinion of course.

The reason WHATGTG is on the top of my DD list is it's sounds so original even though it's a cover.
lol ...
Top 3 reasons it's bad ass:
1) Awesome Riff and easy to play too (even the solo)
2) The lyrics
3) The solo
I have not heard the remastered version yet but I'm sure it's %110 better and I have yet to hear it live.

Hey I just downloaded WHATGTG live and Glenn your right about the phrasing aspect of DLR live. Good call, but still the studio version is way kick-ass!
