A Brotherly Lunch in Studio City California

Hi everyone out there, I am a huge fan of this band and thought the following would be interesting to all involved so I decided to join up here. I am a 'studio rat' living in the valley and find myself frequenting lots of musician haunts and gear shops etc. Anyway, I was having lunch on Wednesday the 8th at a Deli (Jerry's) not far from the place I've been working of late. While reading the LA Times and shaking my head over the whole election thing guess who came in for a bite and sat one booth behind me??
Mr. Alex and Edward were way cool and totally low key as they ordered their lunch and generally 'shot the shit' as we say. Little did they know that I had figured out who they were despite the baseball hat and shades that Alex was sporting. Seemed to me they were talking business and I heard someone named 'Dave' mentioned and talked about quite a bit. Here are some of the things I was able to pick up without appearing to be eavesdropping:

Alex VH said 'It's Dave's deal really..he thought it would be appropriate..' (not sure what this was referring to but thankfully I got more clarification later)

Eddie VH said about 10 minutes later in a very quiet voice 'He told me about it already and I think it will work but the 3rd verse is shit'

Another final bit I picked up from Alex before they left 'Mike sounds great on it but I agree with Don, maybe we should flesh it out a bit more with McDonald..'

My observation here is I think they were discussing a song in progress, chiefly, the vocals and I think Alex was commenting on how the backup vocal sounds. My only guess about McDonald is maybe Michael McDonald? formerly of the Doobies?? The guy does have an incredibly soulful voice, so maybe he is helping out on some background stuff?? If this is true, this album could be a very very interesting thing with VH reaching out a bit and really trying out some different things? I also think this confirms that David (Lee Roth) is definitely back in the fold.

Well, that's it, I hope you all appreciate this info because I thought it was important to let all of you know.

Well, it certainly sounds plausible. I'll have to go over to the PD and check it out. But really...who the heck knows anymore. It is very possible that the album isn't finished yet though if they're looking for an early spring release...like March or so.

Wait a minute here...the post is from a Kid Charlemagne (yeah, a Steely Dan tune..but that's irrelevant). Anyhow didn't our friend Timothy B. Schmidt post here under that name?! I have a strong feeling that it's TBS at work again.

Hang on...now that I look TBS posted under a different Steely Dan tune name, JackOfSpeed. So it wasn't Kid Charlemagne. But I don't know...that's still a little link of sorts...

How much does it suck that Steely Dan's name is being abused by TBS? My other favorite band (I can't rank it above or behind VH because they're so different) deserves better.

If only Eddie and Alex were as involved on the Internet as Fagen and Becker. A "fan centric" V-H.com in the vein of steelydan.com would be awesome.
