Did Alex and/or Eddie also sing backing vocals?
I think they all sang right?

Eddie did live, but in the studio I think it was all Mike (maybe Mike + Dave/Sammy).

Eddie is always credited with singing backup. Up until VH3 I think the mix was always set to lean more towards Mike's contribution. VH3 definitely sounds more like an Ed-o-centric backup singing album.
The test is this: Listen to Humans Being. The "that's what makes us" part is Ed. Now, do the backup vocs in 3 sound more like that, or more like any previous VH album's backup vocs?"Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

So you think they all sing backup, but have Mike's mic the loudest?
That would make sense to me.

little piece of advice for dj88..
probably best if you don't think at all - it seems to be overtaxing what's left of the tiny particle of brain rattling around the old cranium...
snarf snarf..

I think Mike's background vocals are a staple to VH's sound...as far as 3 goes...Mike is almost unheard of...too low of a mix. Eddie does contribute to background but not enough to decifer his voice as a whole.
I like to argue with people that say VH's background vocals are fake and like Def Leppards....I play them the bootleg "Sonic in Tokyo" and then they shut the fuck UP! Just go for it!

Yeah, although Ed and Al are credited for background vocals on most of the albums it's Mike's voice that really stands out the most. Van Halen wouldn't be the same without Mikey's trademark harmonies. Imagine hearing Jamie's Cryin' or Runnin' With The Devil without him!
