Van Halen is perhaps the most nearly perfect rock album ever created. As an average listener, I find no flaw with it. In fact, I don't think I've ever read any serious criticisms of it. It's kind of like some holy relic that people avoid blaspheming. All of VH's other CDs are picked on, but not the original. Am I right?

I can't find anything wrong with Fair Warning, 1984, and 5150, either.

I agree. The album is what I call "Straight Through" cause you can listen to it straight through and not skip a song. Even people who are NOT Van Halen fans, will not generally diss this album. A true classic!!!!

Like someone said, it's a "straight through" album, which is why it's my favorite album. I can almost say the same about Balance and 5150.

I believe you are all correct Great album! I'd have to say the same with WACF, 1984, and FUCK...I never skip a song on any of those albums.

I agree. I also agree with Dan Halen. I find perfection in Fair Warning, 1984, and 5150 as well.

I think most of VH's albums are straight through albums! I listen to almost all of them all the way through. That's why they are my favorite band!

Van Halen I is flawless. It's simply the greatest rock guitar album of all time, IMO. Fair Warning's a close second.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne
"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

it's nice to see that i'm not the only one who says that van halen is the best album ever made by anyone.
now, i'm a greedy bastard, and i've been known to take things for granted. i think that if there was more variety on the album, like VHII, it would have been better. regardless, it's still the best album ever produced.
anyone who listens to FUCK all the way through must have the volume on zero when spanked comes on. i can't say how much that song sucks. i'm sorry, but that last quote caught me off guard.

I actually like "Spanked." It might be because I read the lyrics before I ever heard the song and was expecting the worst - I'm not sure. It doesn't sound as ridiculous to me as it does to most other people on this board. I guess it's all in preference but don't get wrong, I still say "How Many Say I" is a complete piece of trash.

I'm really not sure which album I prefer, but for being near-perfect, I think I'd take 1984 over Van Halen 1.
Not that I have any complaints about Van Halen 1 of course.
