Brett and/or Mods... Based on the post last night about not hitting the "report" button on every post over in the lovemachine97 (Anti-Roth) bar-brawl...

Got to ask... are people reporting on how much they enjoyed a post or how much a post pissed em off...??

Just wondering... might want to consider some sort of recognition program for the "Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"

Then we'd have something useful for this new feature....

No one is reporting how much they like it. Stuff like, "This offends me," "this board is full of babies," blah blah, stuff like that.

I can sense this thing probably isn't going to be used usefully, I'll probably turn it off in the next couple days.

That suggestion sounds WAY to PD'ish to me with kharma crap. No offense intended.

The report thing has mega suckiness inherant to it. I did however find it usefull when I wasn't online and a picture of an aborted fetus was posted in non. I got a report from it, but Mike also IM'd me so it was a moot point.

Nah Seenbad no offense taken... definately wouldn't suggest the karma thing like at the PD... it was a bad idea from the start and wasn't administered even to the supposed spirit of it's intent!!!

I was just thinking every once in a while an extremely creative great post hits one of the treads... ya know one that makes ya LYAO or makes ya stop and consider another angle no one ever imagined. Unfortunately I guess anything like that turns into a popularity contest or people just do shit to get noticed which turns into mess.

Probably not a good suggestion now that I think about it... reminding me of some of the down-side of the PD tells me this wouldn't work... oh well...

Not a bad idea Zahzoo, but that kinda thing really isn't our 'thing'

As for the report button 'as is'

I think its just inviting people to abuse it, I've seen a couple of pussy whiny 'reports' already that made my skin crawl.

I think we've always managed to police the board fairly well before, and all the mods have got @vhlinks.com emails, so if something DOES happen people can still get hold of us. Just having that report thing sitting theres a virtual invitation for people to use it for anything.

There already is a user rating thing built in to this board that I've never used, I just don't like that kind of stuff.

I think the concept of providing positive feedback is a good focus, but you can always give props to somebody publically on the board, and to me, that's a hell of a lot better than telling a mod about it.

And I have to agree with Goo that we are all very accesible and easy to get a hold of, either by email, PM, or IM (last resort, please. nobody wants to have company over be watching a game or movie or eating dinner and run to the pc for an IM with someone crying about a post that doesn't really need immediate attention.

I think it all comes down to the fact that this board is run so well that the report feature is useless. It's a great tool for boards where the moderators may not be particularly active or around very often, but that's not the case here, and therefore the tool loses any value.

And like Brett said, it's already being abused like mad. Funny how these guys slugging it out in main act so tough and confident, yet feel the need to go cry to a mod that they think the other guy is being a jerk. [img]graemlins/sssh.gif[/img]

Oh, and far as user ratings go - I just see that being a backfire as well - people that have a grude with somebody will just use it to rate people low based on their own discussions and not the person's attitude on the board as a whole.

Just my .02 cents...

I think since that infamous night when Brett shut the board down and almost closed it, that things have been pretty good here around here. It seems, that when people were suddenly faced with the realization that the links existence was not a given. They seemed to realize, that it's a privilege to have this forum around and they should act as such.

As far as people bitchin', it seems to go on at every message board. I think the fact that you guys have built a membership of 5000 plus people, proves you have, and continue you to do, a great job with the links.
