One year
I remember it like it was yesterday, I went looking for a message board and found a home here. I registered the 6th of Nov. I checked the board 5 or 6 times a day.Because i didn't want to miss the announcement of the new singer. Was it Roth or Hagar? It didn't really matter to because I loved both versions of Van Halen. I wanted to be there when the announcement was made because it was the internet and i didnt have to rely on the radio like in 96. I knew this time I would know the news before almost everyone else. I was addicted to this place. as each day passed I knew this was going to be the day. Well now its been a year. I am feeling a little bit impatient, a little bit angry, a little bit frustrated. I know DLR is back in the band or has he been booted? Maybe he never was back. maybe there was Roth and then he was booted and now he is back. Who really knows? Were all guessing. Then I feel like when I state my opinion here I have people dogging me saying i have no right to feel as I do. I think you should guess again as if they are my feelings I have every right to feel any way I want. I see people who have posted here for like 2 or 3 months telling me to be patient. I think I have been. Now let me tell all of you something about me. I was there in person to see VH as the opening act for more famous bands. I bought that first Album the day it came out.
I saw Van Halen with Roth from the beginning every tour that came through the bay area I was there. Every album I bought it the day it came out. My future wife and I used to rock to Van halen and try and figure out the meaniong to DLR's lyrics to get the deeper meaning. At the same time in my little universe the very first concert I ever went to I saw Montrose open up for Elvin Bishop and the lead singer was Sammy hagar. Right from the beginning I was a fan. I bought nine on a ten scale the day it was released there were only two copies in my local tower records I bought one and then my friend went back and bought the other one. I was there for the Red album and musical chairs. I used to sing you make me crazy to my wife. 5 years before she was my wife. Van Halen and Sammy Hagar my two favorite recording artists
of course I liked others but these were the two bands I was absolutly crazy about. My favorite singers were DLR and SH. When they used to critizize each other in the Kerrang magazine I thought it was cool how they must have a little rivalry going. Then the news hit DLR had left to pursue a solo career and movie career. I remember thinking and saying to my friends Sammy should be the singer but I thought there is no way that would ever happen. Then one day I am cruising down the street when I hear on the radio that Sammy has just joined forces with the VH brothers and Mike. Would the band be Van Hagar or stay Van Halen asked the dj(sorry FORD the name has been around forever)I was quite happy. I enjoyed all the music from Van Hagar and solo Roth. Then all the stuff happened in 96 and then I bought VH3 and was very disapointed in the effort and the concert although I saw Sammys marching to Mars tour and Red Voodoo and also Roths last solo tour and I enjoyed both totally. I was saddened to see the lack of fans at Roths,Sammy's and Vh's last tours. I feel saddened by the only 25,000 units sold of 10-13 which I am quite impressed by and is the first cd since Balance that I play all the time. So thats me and my life as a Van halen fan. Don't critizize what you don't understand. I am in my 40's now and I have lived this music for more years thanm most of you have been alive. Don't tell me how I don't give Roth a chance, Don't tell me how Eddie doesen't owe us anything. Your right they don't owe us anything but common decency tells me you should be thankful for your fans. I believe its all a business now to all of them. Not that thats necessairily wrong as I have turned out to be quite the businessman my self. So I mourn the old days and I express myself the way I feel and while some may disagree thats what makes us all unique. Peace out Van Halen fans and its been a long year, hopefully it won't be much longer till we hear some news. Sorry this is so long.
