My wife lived in Pasadena until 1981. She wasn't really into VH back then, but does remember how big a deal they were in the clubs. She said she once had one of their flyers that was put on her windshield but threw it out.

She did say she belives she saw them play at an outdoor party but isn't postive on that though.

My claim to young fame was smoking a joint with Steven Tyler back in the early 80's.

'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

No, not me. I grew up in Montebello. I was in high school from 1973 to 1977. I know Mammoth/Van Halen played at high school dances in the San Gabriel Valley, just a few miles north of where I lived. But, I never saw them, dammit!

I grew up in the Charter Oak Area(suburb of Covina).
Did you know, or do you have any Vince Neil or Tommy Lee stories? I believe they both went to Charter Oaks High School in Covina.

I never saw them in a club but I have met a buttload of people that have. I even had a neighbor that used to flyer for them all the time. If you wear a Van Halen shirt out in public, odds are someone will walk up to you and tell you about it. I even had someone give me some pictures from a backyard party from around the Van Halen II era. I may have them somewhere but don't hold your breath. I remember Eddie looked absolutely bombed in the pic. On a side note. There is a guy in Pasadena that used to (and may still) have a Van Halen museum/shrine. He had a couple of his really old amps and stuff. Plus flyers etc. I seem to remember you needed to make an appointment to see it. Anyone?

Yeah. His name is Doug Anderson and the name of his shop is "The Tone Zone" in Pasadena. He was credited in the first issue of "The Inside" magazine.

I talked to him on the phone back in '95. He was friends with, and grew-up in the same neighborhood with Eddie and Alex. He told me to stop by his shop to see his "Van Halen Shrine." I have never been there. A few things that I remember that he told me: (1) He stopped being a big fan of Van Halen after 1979; he said that at that point VH had become too big, and that he preferred the music on the first two albums, ... (2) Eddie and Alex are assholes: that they used to unplug the amplifiers of bands that opened for them in clubs.

He also told me he had tapes going back to Eddie's band, "The Trojan Rubber Company." I said I needed to get a copy of that tape. He said he does not sale or give out copies of those tapes, but as I continued to press him, he said he would give me a copy if I could name the song that was on the flip side of (the single) "You Really Got Me." I guessed wrong! I thought I knew everything about Van Halen until I talked to this guy. I think I was on the phone with him for an hour or two.

My cousin's ex-boyfriend claimed to have seen them play a backyard party. He said that at the time he didn't think they were anything special just that they had an awesome guitarist. Whether or not he was lying, I don't know.

Hey..I just wanted to know how many if any in VH Forums members got to see Van Halen when they were called Mammoth?...........I grew up in the Charter Oak Area(suburb of Covina).I was 14 when Van Halen 1 came out.I never got a chance to see them as Mammoth but remember seeing flyers posted for parties they played around my neighborhood.Right after I heard Van Halen 1 a friend of mine told me about his sister seeing them at Gazzarri's before they got signed and that they use to be called Mammoth.I was blown away that it was the same band that use to play in my neighborhood.
Van Halen....2003??? In television if your on hiatus this long it's means you have been cancelled and nobody told ya.Has VH Been Cancelled and no ones telling us?? C'mon Ed give us a break and give us an update...
