How did Ray Danniels mislead DLR?

i don't believe that scumbag did anything to mislead DLR. he is associated with the Sammy and Gary eras.

No one knows for sure what happened or who was to blame. Speculation suggests that Ray Danniels told Eddie to get Dave back for a couple of new songs to help push BOV1 and then toss him aside in favor of Gary (who also used Ray as his manager).

I think this all happened in June of '96, but I'm really not sure.

Danniels was the one masterminding the manipulation. He had a revolving door to the studio, where Dave, Cherone, and Malloy were all working with the "band", neither aware of the others existence. And this was even taking place in June before Sammy Hagar was fired! That's 4 guys being misled right there. Then, after Hagar was fired on Father's Day, Danniels concentrated on convincing each of the remaining three that he was THE man for the job. Cherone was Danniels chosen man for the job even before he caught the plane to LA. If you believe Mitch Malloy, he was Eddie's first choice. The fans, of course, wanted Dave.

Who won? Danniels.

Who lost? The fans, the band, and all of the above singers.

Yep, that's about it in a nutshell.

Danniels was the master manipulator & the guys with the vocals were all unwilling participants.
What's worse is that it appears that the VH bros were aware of some or most of what was going down. Not too cool.....

Sammy was smart to stick to his guns. Dave got hosed, although he could have been a little more tactful about the way it was handled in the press. Gary was a lab rat.

It's interesting to see how things played out after Dannels was cut loose tho....all of a sudden they're making new tunes with Roth....even if this was at the direction of Warner Bros....

Danniels bears primary responsibility for the manipulation, but Eddie & Alex were willing accomplices. And they not only lied to Dave and the fans, but also WB and MTV, both of whom were already promoting the reunion heavily.

And it wasn't just June of 1996. It was from the moment the news broke of Hagar's firing to the open letters of October.
