I've always wondered what the meaning behind a lot of VH songs were, and what they were about. So in this topic let's name what we know as the inspiration for Van Halen's lyrics in songs. I'll give what I know.

Runnin' With the Devil - about the rock and roll lifestyle. Sammy said about these lyrics "what lifestyle is he talking about, it's all made up"

One Foot Out the Door - about the rate at which VH was recording at the time.

Panama - Dave wrote this in response to a critic who said VH never writes songs about anything but girls, drugs, and cars. DLR nevr wrote a song about a car before so he wrote one in response to what the critic said.

Drop Dead Legs - About a model he saw in the Calvin Klein catalog.

I'll Wait - About a woman wearing man's underwear in a magazine.

Women in Love - About a girl who leaves her boyfriend for another woman.

Finish What Ya Started - about unfufilled sex.

Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do -inspired by Kurt Cobain's Suicide.

Amsterdam - Drugs

Aftershock - Sam's divorce

Feelin' - the death of Van Halen's manager.

Josephina - About not knowing what your parent's lives were like before you were born.

Hang 'em High: Tongue-in-cheek stab at Clint Eastwood.

Secrets: Inspired by greetings and get-well cards written in the style of American Indian poetry.

The Full Bug: A slang term referring to success.

Love Walks In: Sammy's lyrics were inspired by reading "Aliens Among Us," by Ruth Montgomery.

Poundcake: Sammy's ideal woman, plain and simple.

In 'N' Out: Lyrics deal with how ironic it is that is costs money to be born and to die.
