on the eve of the reformation of one of rock's history greatest institutions, it is a timely moment in time to listen to one of the all time great debut albums. I received my gold disc copy of Van Halen all the way from the USA today and what a magnificant piece of rock music. the sound on this album is truly breath taking. to here the legends the way they would have if you had been in the mixing console.....well, words fail me. now, i don't want anyone thinking that i am gay or something...not that there is anything wrong with that..... but lets put things into perspective. the energy of four musicans captured for the first time in all its glory for all the other musicans to hear and truly wonder what the fuck is this guy doing to an instrument that had been conquered by a black englishman a few years earlier. it's hard for me, as a guitarists, to imagine what more can be done to the instrument and what would it be like if one day if i heard a guitarist that came out and completely change they way i played. thats what happened..guitarist did it, from all over the world, it was like a ripple on a pond effect, its now part of history. you listen to this album and you hear notes that moan, groan, yell, bleed, scream and generally are thrown at you at a hundred miles per hour.
the sound ed gets is bullshit...what a tone, if you have the gold disc listen to the fat sound in On Fire....insane!!
all van halen fans know ted templeman's talent, but what a pleasure it would have been for him to be there, to watch and record the raw energy of Van Halen.....history in the making.
listen to the music and forget the rest..sit back and enjoy...and wait with patience.
long live the mighty Van halen

I agree. One problem. Who's the black Englishman? Hendrix? He was an American.

glenn, you are 100% correct. hendrix was born in Seattle in 42 i think and went to england in 66 and that is where is career really took off. ludwig, a little stumble, however, you also are 100% right..that album is the ultimate. it really is a shame that we are living in a generation where most musical instruments have been fully tested....who knows what lies around the corner. us vh fans are a passionate lot...well written.

ludwig, I agree with you man. There is something absolutely magical about hearing that first album from any band. But in Van Halens case, they had been working their tails off for 2-3 years in L.A. and people just didn't know what they were gonna be in for. The music was so fresh and new, and had an energy that could never be duplicated. Van Halen 1 lives as a classic for all time. It's as fresh today as it was on 1978. Name me another album from 1978 that could be listened to today, and sound timeless.

AGREED! Has to be one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It is so raw..yet so polished that it is almost breath taking. They have yet to duplicate that album in energy & I don't think they ever will.

Funny how un-American some "patriots" are with our top secrets when it fits the cults dogma. Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
