I've been listening to Van Halen II quite a bit lately. This may be the most underrated album of the DLR era.
There is not one bad song on this album and it contains some of my all-time favorite VH songs. Somebody Get Me A Doctor, Outta Love Again, D.O.A. and Women In Love immediately come to mind. Of course there are the two VH classics, Dance The Night Away and Beautiful Girls. Come to think of it, You're No Good, Bottoms Up, Light Up The Sky and Spanish Fly are great tunes, also.
I remember when VHII came out back in 1979. A lot of people complained that it was not nearly as good as VHI. Well, VHI may just be the best album ever made, but VHII is pretty damned great in its own right.
On a final note, I think Somebody Get Me A Doctor would be the perfect song for the reunited Van Halen to open their shows with. The Atomic Punks usually open with this song and it really gets the adrenaline going in a hurry!

I like VH2 a lot. Yeah, it's not as good as VH1 or Fair Warning, but it's a solid sophomore album, and the second album is important. Usually when I listen to it I don't skip any tracks. SGMAD is one of my faves off the album.

Definitely a cracker, and the Remastered copy sounds even better. "Beautiful girls" is a classic party song. I actually prefer this to Van Halen I.

Van Halen II is a true rock classic. The boys were having fun, and the music reflected that.
Some of the songs were written on the first tour, most had already been written and recorded on the demo's.
This release was made in the day when VH could "pump" out music in a few weeks.
Memories, sweet memories......

Vh2 rocks! I love Light Up the Sky, SGMAD, Beautiful Girls, DOA, and most of the rest. The only song on there that I occasionally skip is Outta Love Again.
I am awesome

I was disapointed when I heard VH II after VH1, but it grew on me, I like it better than Fair Warning.
I think Light Up The Sky is AWESOME and is a very under-rated song, I also love Beautiful Girls and Spanish Fly, and I think D.O.A is cool. Right Now you're reading my post!

Yes, VHII is a very underrated album. My favorites are 'Dance The Night Away' and 'DOA'. I would love to hear that album remixed with today's technology. I think it would be amazing.

LIGHT UP THE SKY is my favorite song from this amazing album! I, too, prefer this to the debut album. The debut is amazing, but just a little too-polished in a few spots and I think they could have picked a few different songs from the 1977 demo, including a few of the ones they put on this release.
I also love WOMEN IN LOVE (a total classic), BOTTOMS UP, D.O.A., SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR, BEAUTIFUL GIRLS...
in fact, the only real filler on this album for me is OUTTA LOVE AGAIN. It just never was a memorable song for me, and it's one of the few times I can say that Dave could have done a better job with the vocal melody.
A classic!

Van Halen II is a great album! "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" would be an awesome show opener. "D.O.A.",
"Beautiful Girls" & "Dance The Night Away" are all favourites of mine... “And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Incredible album! I do think that "You're No Good" is horrible and one of the worst songs they ever did period. Otherwise, I think it is unarguably one of the five best albums they released.

I don't think it was either crap nor classic. It contained some great songs, but it was a formula album. It was the record company going into strike while the iron is hot mode. You don't hear much of the band on that album. It was WB saying "churn it out, get 'em on the road and let's move some copies". If they spread those tunes out, wrote more new stuff for VHII they wouldn't have been left as short for WACF. Some some of those great songs would have had time to grow with the band into greater songs.

I agree with you Georgie VH2 is an excellent album but YNG just doesn't do it for me. Never has, never will.
