I picked up on this cat about a year ago. Sure is one hell of a fast player. The other day i heard the Light Up the Sky solo...wholly shit. I think he played so fast on that song that it was uneeded. Shit, it was ridiculous how fast this man can play. Some of his stuff is good though. What you guys think?

Yngwie's definitely a fast and technical guitar player. I just don't feel any of the "soul" when he plays it though. Maybe I haven't heard the right stuff yet.

I thought the "LUTS" solo was a bit fast and kind of churned out to really pay homage to Ed. I always felt he (YM) played it so quickly to kinda show Ed and everyone else "I can play it faster and better than Eddie ever could". Like I said, it's just my opinion and I'm probably wrong.

I did like his "Trilogy" cd though.

I don't own any Yngwie albums, I've just heard a couple of mp3s, but I don't get into him all that much.

I was IMing with a old boyfriend last night when the topic of Yngwie came up. We have always disagreed on guitar players...He likes Vai, I dig Eddie, and so on. Well, he asked me if I'd ever heard of Yngwie, and I said "80's classical shredder?" and he said, "Yeah, that, and also supposed to beone of the best guitarists ever."

Not sure why he brought it up. I thought he was going to invite me to a show. I don't know; would you guys go to a Yngwie concert? Chances are it would be in some tiny venue where you could get way up close, if you liked.

Talk about overrated, this guy is it. Honestly, who cares how fast he can play?? The dude couldn't write a decent tune if his "sorry ass career" depended on it. Like Cabo said, this cat has no "soul". I wouldn't waste my time or money on this piece of shit.

I'm not trying to be mean (mean people suck) just giving you one guys opinion.

Yngwie does not do much for me. He is talented but he is too caught up in the same thing to me. Eddie is a song writer, a pioneer, an innovator, and a superstar. Yngwie is none of these things compared to Ed.

I only think this statement is true with his material after 1985. His first two albums -- Rising Force and Marching Out -- are must-haves for every rock guitar fan. I think there are brilliant compositions, dazzling energy and fire, innovative ideas, and solos that (then) pushed the boundaries of what could be done in guitar leads.

Anything after these albums are, yes, extremely repetitive (especially the songs themselves).

While we're on the subject of him, Yngwie could have had a lot more fans nowadays if he hadn't have been such an egotisical prick back in the 1980's. I think that rubbed on a lot of people the wrong way, and it turned off potential fans in a big way. The major gripe I have against Yngwie is that he has a major God-complex, not that fact that he's been repetitive for the past 10-plus years.

To sort of answer Maya's question, I have seen him a couple of times in concert; the most recent time it was in a small club, and I would recommend that guitar fans check him out at least once. The guy is an absolute master of the instrument. Just not a perpetually-evolving musician and songwriter.

IED, I don't think that's what Scott meant.

I think he just meant that about Yngwie!

Seriously, Mr. Roberts has a point about anything after YM's first 2 cd's. The rest of them WERE just rehashed stuff over and over again. How many more songs have to be about wizards and dragons and that whole neo-european classical finger flash? Mind you, I'm not saying Yngwie isn't talented, but I think Scott's other point, about Yngwie's ego, is 100% dead on!

Look at guys like Dave Mustaine and Don Dokken. These are just 2 guys I know of off the top of my head who's pretentious egos preceed them. To be honest, I've met them both and they were both REAL cool to me and my party. However, with Yngwie, I've read from others that that has not been the case.

    Now, in conclusion....

Waitaminnit...what was I trying to prove or say? Darn it! I hate when I do that.

Ahhh skip it...I'll think of it later.

    I agree with you Scott.

EVH: Definitely. Playing guitar was my sanctuary. It was the one place I could go to if I got fucked around by a girlfriend, or anyone else, for that matter. It still is. If thereís something I canít deal with, I can just spend hours playing. Itís a God-given gift Ė I certainly donít know where the ideas come from. Theyíre obviously given to you, and you have to keep your fingers moving and your mind quiet. I try my best to not think about thinking, so I can just let it flow. Because when I start thinking, forget it. <br />So....why he isn't playing guitar ? ? ?
