Year To the Day would be my pick because the length and style and majesty (yeah, I said it) remind me of how I percieve Stairway.
But really Jump would have to be considered just because it's the one song by VH (like Stairway for Zeppelin) that everybody immediately thinks of when the band is mentioned.

I'm sure no one is gonna agree with me, but I think I would pick "Feelin'" or "Pleasure Dome"
Both those songs are longer "Mood songs" as I call them....Songs that take you on a little sonic and lyrical journey. That's what Stairway to Heaven does for me, and those 2 songs are to me the closest VH songs to sound like a "Stairway To Heaven"....
Anyone agree or disagree with my analysis???

It's currently being written and recorded by Van Halen (Ed, Alex, Mike, Dave).

Glenn, Jump isn't probably wouldn't be the song that makes everyone immediately think of VH. You Really Got Me would be one I think. I do honestly believe, though, that Jump is the most recognizable song ever written. The keyboards at the very beginning are very distinct to me.

Theres no way in hell "Jump" is Van Halens "stairway to heaven", it may be the most recognizable song but it sure as fuck isn't their stairway to heaven. "Mean Streat" or "5150" are the only two possibilities in my book. I would go with "5150" but how can you go against "Mean Streat". (I guess I just did)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "In A Simple Rhyme." Although it wasn't a hit, it had a Stairway-type intro and is an overall great song.

You may think i'm crazy for this one but, I think that if DLR's "Black Sand" off of the DLRBand cd would have been done by Van Halen, it very well could have been their "Highway". It's already an awesome song in its own right, but with the rest of Van Halen on it...coulda been?
It's a very spiritual song. much like "Stairway". Spiritual, not Religious.

I didn't mean it was their Stairway To Heaven. Just saying that it's their most recognizable song.

No doubt in my mind. It's "Jump!" My cousins who live in England only know two things about Van Halen:
1) Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing
2) The song "Jump"
Like it or not, for people who are casual musical listeners and not big Van Halen fans, "Jump" will be the only song synonymous with Van Halen.

I would say Right Now from the Sammy years, and Jump from the Dave years.
But overall I think it is a song we have not heard yet, "Between Us Two", I have heard Sammy say that this song would have been the VH Stairway to Heaven, but as of yet it has not been released, my bet is we will not hear it unless VH and Sammy decide to get together again for something like BOV2, because as I understand it the vocals need to be redone.
