Yeah, it could have been a single. The only thing is, for us die hard fans, nearly every song is worthy of being a single, so how do you narrow it down?
I do think that it could have been a single before Runaround.

Just another reason why THE BAND should say which songs should be singles etc. Like Al said many many years ago, "We wanted to have Light up the sky as the first song of off II." "They said no way." Out.

I like Runaroud better Glenn. But TDIO is an awesome song worthy of a single!

track 5, representin' with the knowledge.
I didn't know that either.
"The Dream Is Over" is a great song, maybe my favorite off of FUCK.
It's got everything going for it: great music, lyrics, singing, background vocals, harmonies.
I can't understand why this wasn't a single.
I'd easily choose this over Runaround.

Why do record companies do anything the way they do????
Shoot and release a video for "Poundcake", yet it is the B-side to "Top of the World", which was the first single released from "FUCK" and was released on 10/12/91, which is approximately 2 months after the release of "FUCK". Usually, as Diamond Dave is credited w/ saying, a single is released four weeks ahead of the album to pressure sales. Yet "FUCK"s first single is 8 weeks after. Come again??
And, if one looks at "FUCK" and "Balance", only two singles were released from each.
FUCK: Top of the World and Right Now
Balance: Can't Stop and Not Enough
FUCK should have had the following as singles: Poundcake, Top of the World, Right Now, The Dream Is Over and Runaround
Balance should have had: Don't Tell Me, Can't Stop, Take Me Back, Not Enough and Feelin'.
And III, despite the abyssmal acclaim it receives here, was also poorly marketed. In addition to Without You, other singles should have been Once, Josephina, Fire in the Hole and Dirty Water Dog.
I can't understand why other record companies will saturate the market w/ Janet Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, et al, in which 5-7 singles are released from one album, yet VH hasn't released more than 2 singles from a disc in more than 12 years. It sounds like WB's is neglecting part of its franchise, to a degree.

Van Halen and Van Hagar were never "singles" bands. Yeah, they have had their hit singles, but the focus has always been on the album, not on the teenybopper singles charts that have been dominated by shit for most of the 22 years since Van Halen I was released. Rock radio will play probably 4 or 5 songs of the current VH album in regular rotation (at least KISW always did)and the top 40 stations won't play them at all, so as long as the band is selling more than platinum (as Van Halen and Van Hagar always did), there's really no need to promote it by selling singles. I myself will only buy a single if it has some quality non-album B-sides included (see any U2 or Pearl Jam single)because I bought the album already.
As for VD III, not enough marketing??? WB sunk 7 million dollars into that turd. There were VD III print ads in every magazine possible, VD III radio ads, VD III TV ads, paid promotion to corporate radio of "Without You" and "Fire In The Hole". There was a "Without You" video in heavy rotation on MTV and I believe one for "Fire in the Hole" which also promoted "Lethal Weapon IV". And after all that it didn't work, because the album was simply not up to Van Halen standards, the fans were pissed about the reunion scam, etc. But you can't say WB didn't give it a shot.
