Maybe Ed played the guitar solo and he used a recording of the keyboard. I'm not sure.

There was a keyboardist (J.J. from Toto) who
played on 'Jump' and the other keyboard songs on the tour. There was a thread awhile back about this guy being asked to play on the next VH tour. What's driving me crazy is that I don't remember his full name.

I would suggest that any guitar solo you hear of Jump, it's Eddie playing it. In the Sammy era, they used tapes on the last couple tours for the keys, but on the earlier ones I'm not sure. But, and this is no offense to Sammy, if Sammy had played the Jump guitar solo, you'd have known it wasn't Eddie. Like Raldo said, I believe there was a keyboardist playing offstage on the III tour.

John Jessel (J.J.) was the name of the keyboardist who played for the III tour.
He's the backup keyboardist for Toto live, since they also have a keyboardist, but he's touring with them for 10 years and has since become a good friend of them.
Rumours said he was approached for an incoming tour of the Mighty Van Halen, but it was shot down saying Classic VH don't need so much keyboards to justify the presence of an added keyboard player.
Only time will tell (that, for the trivia section, is the title of an 80's supergroup song. What's the name of that band?)

Correct!
Another question... Who played keyboards live with Coverdale/Page (he's in some way VH-related...)?

Sometimes a "sequencer" can be used to trigger previously recorded material to playback through the mix.
