Which album do you think VH got the best sound/mix on? Not necessarily the best album with the best songs, but which one did they sound the best, leave the vocals out, just the guitar, bass, drums, etc. I think that the best sounding album mix-wise is Balance. All the albums before Fair Warning sounded thin (awesome, classic songs, but the overall sound was thin) Fair Warning sounded good. 1984 was too treble-oriented. 5150 and OU812 were horrible as far as the mix goes. FUCK wasn't great either. Balance was damn near perfect to me. Not necessarily the best VH songs, but they sounded great. Then VH3 went back down hill again. The remasters sound better, but still not as good as Balance to me. What do you think?

....It blows my mind every time I play it van halen 1 ...I dont know who get's the credit.I think Gene Simons might of did somthing killer to that mix or maybe it was Ted...IT SOUNDS TO ME that the record was slowed down ....it twist the shit out of my ears.....I cant get tired of it

Yeah, I also say Balance. The guitar tone, drums, and bass all sound great on it.

I'd have to agree with the Fair Warning and Balance choices. Both of those albums are very balanced (pardon the pun) in their sound with the various instruments and vocals. I do like the "live" sound of VH1 though. Best guitar tone ever on any hard rock album. BTW, Gene Simmons had nothing to do with that album. He just worked with them on some demos years before they were signed.

.....well you know what i mean....if the guy had his nose in arranging certain parts like : the car horn before running with the devil instead of the original way it was -after house of pain and the bass is kind of distorted....I think that is alot of input for a non-member...dont get me wrong...it does make you wonder

Okay, maybe he helped with a little arranging here and there, but c'mon it's Gene Simmons. Put on any old Kiss album. They sound like shit compared to any Van Halen album. They probably spent more on blow and chicks in the studio than they ever did on production of any KISS album. Calling Gene Simmons a musical visionary or something is really pushin it.

......no see , you got me wrong...I'm not saying Gene Simons is the reason van halen's debut was so succesful....I think it all orbits around the greatest guitar player in the world....the rest of the band sounds caught up to ED on that paticular album....they all worked on those tunes for a long time...but , I do hear Simmons on that record....check out 100,000 years from kiss

Balance. You can turn it up way loud and it sounds BIG and POWERFUL. Turn the early albums up and you hear Eddie (not a bad thing, admittedly) and AL's cymbals.
Use my hand, I won't look!

Fair Warning has a great sound to it. Balance does too.
This one is moving over to the Songs/Albums/Videos forum.
