TAKEN FROM TORONTO SUN:

Torontonian Richard Chycki, who has recently recorded and mixed tracks by Mick Jagger, Pink, and Def Leppard, spent last week at Metalworks studios in Mississauga, Ont., mixing Triumph's live set from 1983's US Festival in surround sound for a commemorative DVD.

More than 250,000 people attended the May 1983 concert in San Bernadino, CA. Other performers were Van Halen, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, and Joe Walsh.

"I'm just doing Triumph," says Chycki, "but putting all the bands in a package is definitely a consideration."
-------------------------------------------------

WOW! Imagine if someone did a similar DVD with VH's set. It's not one of the best performances of their career, but it's pretty notorious.

I'd love to see that on DVD. And they can release one of U2's US Festival performance too

Morpheus has a few VH gems on it including:
Unchained (Oakland '81)
So this is love? (Same show)
Romeo Delight(Us '83)
Full Bug (Sao Paulo 83)
Mean Street solo (Buenos Aires '83)
and a few more that are pretty damn regal if you ask me. If you are too young to have seen "classic" VH, I highly recommend going to musiccity.com and dowloading Morepheus and seeing that era of VH's history.

That would be AWESOME! What a line up!
Triumph was a GREAT band - Rik Emmett was/is very underrated.

I'd certainly love to see this, but it'll never happen. I think it's more likely (though only slightly) that they'd release the Oakland 1981 show. The US Festival was a bit too much of a mess for Eddie to okay in my opinion.

Good topic for the Videos forum. Going to send this there now.

I agree, Glenn. The US Festival was the first boot vid of VH I got. And I must say I was a bit surprised. Having never seen the original line-up live, I was thinking, "Wow, they were really sloppy live."

Eddie and Dave both had much better shows, and Mike's solo is BAD. It's not a horrible show, but Largo '82 and Oakland '81 are much better. I don't have Oakland, but just from what I've seen (no one has Oakland except the band). Largo could never be released because I think it's only cameras shot by the arena and mono soundboard sound (a lot of Aerosmith and Kiss shows were also filmed at the Maryland stadium).

Oakland would be awesome. They also apparently filmed a lot of tour footage on the WACF tour for a proposed concert movie. The movie never happened...put it out now!

I've heard about the WACF footage too. Wonder what happened to it? And I guarantee we will never see a DVD of the US Festival. Let's be realistic, that is not a good show. Dave does say some classic shit, but his vocals are horrible. He missed more cues than a beginning pool player. I think the guitar solo is excellent though. There are better shows than this floating around I'm sure.

I still wonder if there's any good pro-shot footage lying around of the 1984 Tour. That would be amazing. Imagine something of the quality of LWAN lying around of a 1984 show.

You can bet that they have some very cool footage of various tours locked away in Pete's vault. Now will they ever see the light of day to us hardcore fans? I'd imagine when we are all about 50 years of age and don't care anymore, that WB will then decide to release these shows. Even that would be a God send. Out.

Yeah that would be sweet if they released the full oakland 81' concert on DVD. And as far as the US festival, i think that was one of the best shows VH ever did. The only reason it came off sloppy was dave forgot half the lyrics to all the songs. But yeah eddies solo was cool in largo, especially when he jumped off the front of the speakers. All in all i'd love to see pro shot footage of the 1984 tour. The only boot thats out is montreal and it sucks

I find it hilarious how the usual Dave bashers whine about how fucked up Roth was during the US festival but fail to mention that the ENTIRE BAND was just as fucked up. They ALL played sloppy, hit sour notes, off key harmonies, etc.

And that's the beuaty of the US festival show.

Was it their best musical performance? Fuck no!

But it had far more entertainment value than anything in 4 Van Hagar tours and one VDIII Garyoake tour combined

Unless all you give a fuck about is guitar solos In which case you should just go to the damn G3 tours and avoid all other concerts where there are other people in the band.

Ford, you're right. They were all playing shitty. But it does seem that Eddie plays some of his best stuff when he's shitfaced, which is either genius or sad or both, depending how you look at it. But the Dave acapella stuff before "Secrets" is pretty bad, as is Eddie's usually stellar "Cathedral". I give the guys a break, though. I would drink myself into a stupor if I had to headline in front of 300,000 people!

I was at the US Festival and as you all know it was classic. One thing - Two days before the festival Joe Walsh requested to be moved from Heavy Metal Day to day three (a lot mellower day). In his place Quiet Riot was brought in just as the album Metal Health was released. The show began at 12:00 Noon with Metal Health and wow! What a way to start off the greatest metal/rock day ever! My take on the entire day:
Quiet Riot: Rocked - nice surprise
Motley Crue: (just before Shout at the Devil released) - was not impressed.
Ozzy - Thought he sucked
Judas Priest - Unbelievable - one of the best shows I've ever seen - Screaming for Vengence tour - my favorite Priest album
Triumph - Nice set - great break during the day as the sun was coming down.
Scorpions - Touring for Blackout - a great show just before they went commercial.
The Mighty VH - Over two hours late but what can you say it was Halen and at of all the times I've seen them - was my favorite!
Give the gig to Mike!
